been wanting some treatment for my room so I ordered some rockwool.
Today they arrived, so I thought I'd start making them.
out of 1/4" plywood, I made the frames that will house the rockwool. These are 7'8" tall.

just in time and help arrives, we decided we start cutting the rockwool... (always practice safety since this material is irritating to the skin and even worse on the nose and eyes)

one done and shortly after the other follows.

Re: bass trap room treatment

You said irritating to the skin. Does rockwool contain any fiberglass?

You probably know this already but thought I'd share for others' benefit:

When working with fiberglass (i.e. sanding fiberglass embedded surfaces), there is always the risk of tiny bits of glass hards flying around and coming into contact with skin. These shards then pierce into one's pores and creates agonizingly prickly itch/pain. Imagine lying down in bed and could not find a comfortable position because of a thousand pins on it.

What many boatbuilders do in preparation for working with fiberglass, even before donning full-body clothing, is to apply baby powder all over one's body. Baby powder effectively seals body pores greatly minimizing risk.

Amen to that, at first I thought I had nothing on my skin but once I lifted my hand into the light I saw lots of mini glass shreds on my skin thus I let running water flush it. What sucks more is that sometimes there are just glass shreds waiting to prick you once you hold into the material or sometimes into the tools. Worst, there are small "salusob" that it very hard to see as those are very small transparent glass on the skin. I still ave one that I could not remove til now 🙁

natawa na lang ako sa sarili ko when I realized that I have an aircon in the room and the right side has a window that we need to open on hot days like today. so before I get scolded for my mistake, I corrected them.
installed the footing to bypass the base board...

then I installed the corrected height that is desired after all considerations.

both sides has them na...

now I am very happy boy...

Re: bass trap room treatment

This is very interesting for me.

I have a home theater setup in the basement and, when I built it, didn't know any better so walls are all concrete and ceiling is hardiflex. Speakers are Bose 5.1 which should be ok but, because of bad acoustics, sound is boomy.

Thinking about getting some lawanit, then glue foam on them, then wrap in leatherette. Think this would improve acoustics?

Any suggestions?

[/HTML]

wrapping it with leatherette or anything like it would negate the purpose..

let the insulation breath and thats the key to absorbing unwanted sounds.

you may wrap it using silk screens...and cheaper.

the problem with earlier acoustimass is you cant control the bass.

rockwool is the treatment that makes it work Ding, not just any foam. also the cloth I used is specific for this purpose as rockwool has glass shards like fiberglass,
