Re: bass trap room treatment

Hey Sonny, where did you buy the cloth? Is it very acoustically transparent talaga? Better than the honeycomb cloths being suggested in other forums?

that picture shows the non woven cloth which is suppose to protect us from the material... here is the new cloth I came across Divisoria.....

the tip I got was, if a light passes thru, then it should be fine... some say though that when you blow thru the cloth and you can feel the wind, it is a better option... :tv_horror:

Yeah. Yun blow is a better test. There are fabrics that are manipis so transluscent siya, pero very tightly knitted together kaya hirap din lumusot ang air or sound wave. Pero sa mid freqs, mas ok ang makapal kasi masmahaba na ang wave niya.

Re: bass trap room treatment

I've tried the PP woven cloth. Very transparent but the aesthetics is not pleasing. Will try to look for speaker cloth. And by any chance, do you know where to buy the fabric called burlap?

Jarod should better answer your inquiry, not familiar with cloth materials kasi. but I reckon burlap is readily available in divisoria...

the problem with earlier acoustimass is you cant control the bass.

I think I got a later model (sometime 2004) which has level control on the subwoofer itself. Thanks.

I think are also known as sack cloth used in some cultural crafts and even in gardening. Try to visit Juan Luna and Ylaya as they have many synthetic and organic textile to offer.

Re: bass trap room treatment

Already bought fabric sa Kamuning. I used spandex. Very acoustically transparent.

di ba yung ang ginagamit sa brief or shorts?:zipped: nice brader, I am sure it would look good as spandex can take the shape of the casing of your rockwool.
Now, while I was in another forum, it is my understanding the low frequencies will be absorbed better with more mass, the material I used kasi though not as breathable as speaker cloth should also add mass to the overall function. I even think that a material such as a carpet type of cloth would even work. the benefit for me o a thicker material covering would be, easier to hide the flaws of the work :captain:

Carpet material is ok already so if you intend to use this then don't bother with the rockwool anymore since sound would not pass thru it anymore. Magiging redundant na Lang yung rockwool mo, as in dagdag gastos. Dapat nga bare rock wool Lang but since it is quite irritating then we need to cover it. Ngayon Kung yung cover mo nman is so dense then the purpose of having the rockwool is defleated. As for spandex or other stretchable material, try to use it correctly. Ime once fabrics are stretched it closes the gap between fibers thereby making it unbreathable.

I do remember your advice brader Ricky, I just couldn't find the link I want to share with you. In the Harbeth forum, the designer (Alan Shaw) says that a carpet will absorb the first reflection BUT very very minimal, in fact you would need 5 layers of rockwool just to absorb it to be noticeable which he tested with his equipments(I will post link as soon as I find it). I took his comments and tested it, well I am not really using carpet material though the fabric I have on is on the thick side already and I didn't notice a change from the non woven fabric to the covered one...
a rockwool with a rating of 100kilos versus a 60 kilo differentiates in mass right? I don't really think that a cloth with a carpet quality would be able to block or reflect the low freq. though I could be wrong :shark:

Re: bass trap room treatment

Lesser density for higher frequencies. But since isang density lang ang gagamitin natin, yun 100kg rating would suffice for midlows to high freqs. For midlows to low freqs, medjo mahirap treat yan. Ussually, diffuser na ang ginagamit. Mahahaba kasi ang sound wave ng mga low frerqs.

Maslumalaki ang butas ng spandex when stretched. Tested it na that's why i chose spandex. Cotton naman ata sa mga underwear master timber. Hehe!

I will not cover the rockwool and fiberwool directly with spandex.

Re: bass trap room treatment

I promised my wife we'd find a way to stop the whole house from shaking from the subwoofer I recently bought so I'll be watching this. For now, I put what pillows I could find in accessible corners and spaces. I think one of those furry carpets will do better than the pile carpet we have now.

Re: bass trap room treatment

Mga 12" of concrete wall and ceiling, kaya na yan. Hehe! Mahirap kalaban ang lows kasi longer ang sound waves nila. There's another solution. You can lower the gain of your subwoofer and add bass shakers sa seats. That way, you can feel the bass pero less damage sa ibang rooms.
