Hi guys!

Can you help or give me ideas on how to make the below sofa? I can easily get the foam and make the cover. My problem are the metal legs and what wood to use.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Plywood edged well should work for your needs. for the metal feet, the metal boys might be in a better position to help you...

Thanks master timber. Ano po yung "plywood edged"? I was thinking of using 3/4 in thick plywood, then I'll just put a reinforcing frame under it out of 2" X 2" lumber, where I would attach the metal legs. Di naman siguro visible yung frame.

Re: Help in a Simple Sofa Design...

I think what timber meant was "plywood that is edged well."

You know very well how the bare plywood edge looks like. To prevent splinters and also to improve aesthetics, you need to "edge" it.

Plenty of choices to do this. You can use "liston" from your local hardware/lumberyard:

Or you can use the edging that goes with formica laminates:

Nice and simple design, btw. But it looks top-heavy, baka matumba ka pag bigla kang sumandal. I'd suggest 2x3 or bigger for the frame to make the sofa more stable.

And don't forget to show us the WIPs when you're building it. 😉

P.S.

This might be of some help:

Re: Help in a Simple Sofa Design...

my bad. yep. that's edged plywood. i don't know why it slipped my mind. thanks, for the info, master joey.

yep. 2" X 3" seems would make it more stable.

i actually saw a similar one at People Are People store. but different color. darker. and the back cushion has back support frame not visible when the cushions are in placed. it also has an arm rest.

the design is very nice and simple, but is very easy to maintain and repair. It can also become an extra bed for guest. The table/ottoman can even be positioned perpendicularly to the sofa to make an L-shaped sofa.

i saw the same design recently on Yahoo news, the cantilevered glass house. the design also comes in a bed.

Re: Help in a Simple Sofa Design...

if you use wood it will be hard not to notice it, but if you use an angle bar as your frame it will be more sturdier and discreet and just weld the feet or bolt it if you want.. just my 2 centavo

Re: Help in a Simple Sofa Design...

dapat po siguro sir magnda ung frame para papatong na lng ung wood part.. bka pwede angular ung frame tpos paweld ka lng solid round bar (parang ginagamit sa construction) para sa paa nung bed at sofa.. for the wood pwede marine plywood para mas matibay.. 🙂
