Re: Help in Sliding Doors for Cabinets/Shelves

@ Neo..here you go. Don't know if thats what you need exactly but if you got the time you can download the pdf in the Hafele site..its the catalog under sliding doors I think

Salamat, sir. Yep. It seems that the second one is similar to what I have in mind. I may have to thicken the shelves then.

Now, I have more options. Thanks again for this. 🙂

O/T:

Aside from thermal and user mishandling, hardware are really not 100% predictive in terms of life expectancy. There are also "lemons" in the HDD industry and this is a known issue as well. Even major brands are not excluded from this thus back-up of important files is always the best way.

My HDD was a Seagate brand. It crashed and could not be recovered by the usual means. As in dead talaga. No sound. No light. Nada. I need to send it to a laboratory with a controlled environment and they would be opening it up, like dissecting it. But still not 100% sure all files could be recovered. And too costly. So I just said goodbye to my HDD. And keep it until such time that a new technology is developed for recovering files from such crashed HDD.

Nanay ko po! Thanks for the vote of confidence, pero isang malaking pagkakamali 'yan!

Please don't scrimp on DVD media as well. I've seen cheap DVDs whose metallic side slowly getting chipped and eventually leaving a polycarbonate disc behind.

If the content is important, better get quality storage as well. After all, you only get to pay for it once and enjoy it for long.

Re: Help in Sliding Doors for Cabinets/Shelves

thanks, master timber. would plywood or plyboard more suitable for this design?

According to me plywood is the best because it is stronger, water resistant , and more attractive to look at whether painted or stained. So I suggest plywood for Doors. I also suggest sliding door is also very nice idea for door.

Yes, plywood is more durable if exposed to water. Attractive or stronger depends on a lot of factors. Have you come across a very nice plywood that can be flattened perfectly even like mdf? How much work must you put in to have the plywood flat and smooth like mdf? Which flexes more plywood or mdf? For big pieces like those doors the plywood will have more movement issues than mdf.
Can you specify they way you think plywood can be made into that design? Does it involve duco + a lot of sanding then duco and sanding again until you reach the quality close to mdf?
Can we know a little about yourself? That way we would know and understand where you're coming from...

Re: Help in Sliding Doors for Cabinets/Shelves

goodmorning neo, i will try to help you with my idea. My first option would be to look for a mechanism that could hide the tracks, a track that is embedded in the board and a holder that is strong enough to carry the load of the boards. Second option would be to use two boards, one board align vertically with the track where the wheel is installed and the front face board screwed to it and use the ordinary sliding rail track that is embedded made of steel including the wheel.
Correct me if my idea is wrong. hehe. The problem with the design is the sliding panel is outside the carcase which is quite a challenging but i think there should be a mechanism for that particular design.

Hi Jo252011. I also like your suggestion thanks for sharing this fantastic idea about Sliding Doors for Cabinets/Shelves. I am also make one cabinet for my bedroom now I am making cabinet with Sliding Doors.

Re: Help in Sliding Doors for Cabinets/Shelves

thanks for the fast reply, jo252011. we were on the same frequency. embedded tracks, holder that could support the load, and would not split the wood.

yep. the challenging part is that the panels are outside. this is the beauty of this design. because the 3 panels can have separate paintings/art work, but when aligned, shows one big painting/artwork. and this is the result i am trying to achieve, which i have no solution of. i am planning to have an abstract artwork for the panels. something like this, but horizontal setup, not vertical.

Hi Neo,
The art work is fantastic, your design? Is it painted on? Can a person buy this form of art work as 'wall-paper' and just stick it onto the doors? because if I tried to paint this it would certainly be a mess.

Re: Help in Sliding Doors for Cabinets/Shelves

I don't know where to post this, but I used the search function and found this thread. I hope someone could help.

I had a sliding door closet customized recently. I bought a sliding door mechanism set from Wilcon for the doors. Unfortunately, the guide that came with it couldn't hold the 3/4" plywood doors. The carpenter suggested I buy aluminum sliding door tracks. Where do I get these? Thanks.

Aluminum and glass supply shops. They're pretty much everywhere.

Or, if you prefer to have the door mounted, ou can go to hafele and get the hardware that fits your need.

Thanks. I asked my brother to inquire. The shop doesn't exactly have the tracks, but they can customize.

Thank you. But the doors are mounted po on the top railings. I was told there's no need to mount them on the bottom tracks.

Did you got the Sentry mechanism, 30kg? This one fit for 3/4" boards. Other mechanism won't fit. You will be needing a router tool to make a rabbet (groove) at the bottom of the board for the guide.
