Hi Bro,

I used 3/4 plywood for my attic because the area was big (approx. 10 x 14 mtrs). Likewise angle bar din ang support sa ilalim. I used self tapping black screw for fasteners. Ok naman sya matibay. Ang problema lang ay may natutuklap dun sa top layer nya sa mga gilid ng plywood katagalan kaya dapat malagyan sa ibabaw ng protection, siguro vinyl or linoleum pwede. So far twelve years na ok pa naman.

plyboard and plywood yun baka typo lang. may binanggit din kasi siyang playwood at playboard.:p

Yan yung nasa gitna pag naglalaro ka ng monopoly, scrabble or any board games....

thankx sa feedback na plywood gamitin ko... nun una kasi pag kakaisip ko mas ok plyboard kasi may mga solid wood sa loob.. but hinde pala..

any way hope can any one explain baki mas ok plywood vs plyboard for flooring? TY

Its because of the beauty of lamination. From Wikipedia:

"Lamination is the technique of manufacturing a material in multiple layers, so that the composite material achieves improved strength, stability, appearance or other properties from the use of differing materials. A laminate is usually permanently assembled by heat, pressure, welding, or adhesives."

Plyboard has fewer layers (or plies), and at its center (core) is a thick (compared to other layers) layer of lumber. When this layer develops a crack, then the structural integrity of the layer is compromised. Remember that layer comprises more than half of your plyboard. This is the central point of failure.

And also note the direction of the lumber core. You can't make long pieces across the grain of the core because it will be very weak.

Plywood on the other hand, has thinner but more plies. If one layer cracks, the damage is confined and there are more intact layers to support it. Also the layers alternate in grain direction, so more or less you have the same strength in either crosswise or lengthwise direction.

at eto ang plyboard

now, you see the difference? Plywood ranges from 2mm up to 18mm and up for special requirements while plyboard is 18mm. wala pa akong naeencounter na 1/2 plyboard. anyone?

why plywood instead of plyboard? joey says it all...

pero tandaan medyo mahal ng kaunti ang plywood sa plyboard ha...logical naman isipin bakit mahal...more glue and more laminations.

pero ang pinaka importante sa lahat ng difference ng dalawa ay strength.

di na siguro kelangan explain.

though i am not familiar if there is an 18mm cementitious fiberboard..and i believe this is not designed for flooring material but either for walls or ceiling..and i bet if there is one..it should be priced within the range of the wood type.

IMHO plyboard has better strength compared to plywood bec of the solid wood panels sa core nya depende sa pagkakagawa ha kasi Problem Lang with plyboard is if you get an AMPAW meaning Hindi maganda yung core. Plyboard does not sag unlike plywood does pero depende pa din sa gamit/purpose. tama si ^bro Joey na dapat yung orientation ay perpendicular sa takbo ng core otherwise pwede mabali. Also another issue with plyboard is wala Syang marine type kaya Kung Hindi mo paint or Lagyan ng liston eh may probability na matuklap yung first layer and ayun exposed na yung solid wood sa loob. For flooring I would use the plyboard painted with epoxy primer para matibay sa moisture , pero ako yon ha.

Minsan kasi nag talo kami nun carpenter ng mom ko, gusto nay plyboard for closet door, ako naman marine plywood gusto ko. Both 3/4"in thick size of panel is 24"x 96",pareho namin ginamit. Yung plywood nag warp nun 3hinges Lang nakalagay compared sa plyboard na tuwid talaga,talo ako hahaha kaya napilitan ako gumamit ng piano hinge para macontrol yung warpage.

Nakabawi Lang ako Kay manong nun nakatsamba sya ng AMPAW sa gitna at kumalas yung core hahaha. May pros and cons talaga.
