For all you Manila gurus out there -
I've been living here 6 years but am a total Manila newbie. I've noticed that sometimes there are areas of town that have a lot of one kind of shop (like 30 shops that sell doors)..
I'm looking for a few places:
- Architectural salvage
In the US we have many companies that specialize in salvaging antique elements from building that are torn down - old windows, glass doorknobs, hinges, factory architectural elements, etc. Is there anything similar in Manila? If you ever watch 'The Pickers' on history channel you'll understand what I'm looking for
- Decorative planting pots - the over-sized planting containers - an example can be found here:

Not just the typical red terracotta kind. I drove by a bunch of them in a taxi last year but we couldn't stop.
- A really good and unique tile shop - not Wilcon, Home Depot, Dexterton - but a place that imports more unique stuff.

Good questions. And I have no answers. Sort of.
Not aware of architectural salvage but am aware of antique stores that have some fixtures along Kamuning Road in Quezon City. There are a few demolished-house-salvage shops but they're scattered and more like junkyards than architectural antiques. But there must be something better than what I know because there are some eclectic bed and breakfasts that use salvaged fixtures and they must have a source somewhere. I hope someone else can answer your question better.
On pots. I'm aware that Sta. Rosa road on the climb up to Tagaytay has some pot vendors, imports from Vietnam. We recently bought some and they look good. But the selection is limited to a specific Asian theme. None of the modern ones in your photo.
Ugu Bigyan, an artist from Tiaong, Quezon, sells some beautiful stuff. There's also in Antipolo's Crescent Moon Cafe where Lanelle Abueva showcases her pottery.
Sorry, all these pottery places are themed Modern Asian or close to it. The usual browns, grays and greens. None of the bright primary colors. Hope this helps, somewhat.

Hi guys! I've been hanging around for years here and been reading good advices from you gurus. I'm 56 years old and working in binondo. Have been doing also some DIYs at home. Well I do not have those AI tools that you guys have only a few hand tools and just been doing a little tinkering during rest days just to accomplish work needed to make life a little easier especially my kumander. I hope I can reply to the question - I know there are plenty of stalls corner Dapitan and Mayon Street where they sell different items vases, bird and dog cages, candle holders, decorative items, etc. I'm hoping you'll be able to find what you're looking for.

I've seen some surplus wood, doors and windows in Cavite area specifically Bacoor and also along Evangelista, Makati but more on house decorations.
