Hi all! Do you have any suggestions on a good anti-anay? Some of the chemicals have carcinogens daw.

Hi there. You might want to try Lentrex/Lantrex. You can get it at any ACE hardware store. AFAIK, almost all anti-termite chemicals have some form of carcinogens in them so that's why when you us them, it is not advisable to enter the treated area for a minimum of six hours. Latrex/Lentrex can be mixed with water and just spray the mixture over the exposed area.

Chlordane used to be the most popular termiticide, but it was banned for being a carcinogen. Lentrek and the other newer termiticides are safer daw, but I will follow directions very closely and use protective clothing and gloves when applying.

Re: Any Suggestion on a good Termicide (anti-anay)

may i just inquire on almost the same topic. i've recently bought a 20-year old house, the structures are still great but some wooden portion of the garage were infested with termites (but i do not see them now) as well as two decorative pillars in the living room the ceiling though is not infected or infested as it is not made of wood.

some questions:

1. does it mean now that termite infestation is bad (living room to garage) or had the termites left already as i do not see them anymore?

2. what's your recommended anay terminator and more or less the cost of having anti anay done by the professionals?

3. i intend to renovate next week, how many days after treatment should we start with the repairs/renovation?

4. any other comments will certainly be appreciated.

Re: Any Suggestion on a good Termicide (anti-anay)

Hi ajsurla.

To answer your questions based on my experience with my parents house, which is 70% made of wood:

1. does it mean now that termite infestation is bad (living room to garage) or had the termites left already as i do not see them anymore?

Termite infestation might be already bad. The termites might have gone deeper into the wood or might have moved somewhere along the house. I'm currently having the same problem - the termites leave one place, only to move to another. Best bet is to check all of your wooden structures by knocking on it. If the wood sounds hollow or "bingi", then it's a sure sign of termite infestation

2. what's your recommended anay terminator and more or less the cost of having anti anay done by the professionals?

Well...the cost depends I think on the exterminator. The more known the exterminator, the more expensive they become. Of course, the more known exterminators are arguably better than the less known - but I could be wrong. One of the best known is Mapecon. You might want to try to contact them. AFAIK, they give free estimates.

3. i intend to renovate next week, how many days after treatment should we start with the repairs/renovation?

I think that, for soil treatment, minimum of 3-4 days. Wood treatment is another thing. From what I remember from my parents house when they were renovating, they had to cure he wood treated by Solignum for a week or so. I suggest that you first consult a professional on the expanse of the termite infestation before you renovate. This would give you invaluable information regarding the type of treatment necessary, the length of treatment/curing required and when would be the ideal time for your to do renovation.

Good luck.

Re: Any Suggestion on a good Termicide (anti-anay)

My parents' house, almost entirely made of wood, also has a termite problem. Unfortunately, most soil treatments last only 10 years or so, and the house is more than 40 years old.

A company, Sentricon I think is the name, has introduced a new way to kill termites. It uses baits to draw the termite away from the house. Once baited, the termites are killed. This may be a better solution to the problem rather than soil treatment, which just creates a chemical barrier to prevent termites from getting inside the house. What if they are already inside?

Dursban or Lentrek are good termicide products that are less harmfull to people and the environment. If you wish to use non-poisonous products, consult Sentricon. They use termite baits which are safe to humans and the environ.

Suggestion in using Lentrek:

Buy a handy sprayer dispenser(usually used as sprayer for plants and ironing clothes) put 2 tbsp of Lentrek and add water. Spray it on infected areas of the house. It will kill not only termites but ants and other creepy crawlers in the house.

Re: Any Suggestion on a good Termicide (anti-anay)

I heard of the product of Sentricon. -- termite bait..

Until I heard that my brother in law does the same thing-- I recently bought a 15-year old townhouse and I'll have it treated before and during renovation just to make sure.

Will try to post his number here or on the classifieds section once I get his office details.

I'll also give feedback on the service hehe =)

Re: Any Suggestion on a good Termicide (anti-anay)

hi sa inyo mga peeps, i like this forum dami applicable na matutunan para sa bahay...

anyway, i'm a subscriber of entom. they installed 2 years ago sentricon system sa bahay namin and i recommend the system. nothing to fear of hazardous liquid chemicals. the sentricon system works as an antimolt so it will take effect 30 to 40 days after detection and feeding. the bait is a wood na favorite ng anay. once may kumagat kukunin yung mga anay at papalitan yung bait ng antimolt. parang tissue paper lang tapos ibabalik yung anay dun sa housing para pakainin. bali kakain ang mga anay hanggang sa araw ng molt nila pero hindi na cla makamolt kaya mamatay cla. kakainin ngayon ng queen ang mga patay na anay at mahahawa din ang queen kaya ang buong colony exterminated.

ang galing it works.

here's the cost:

paid around 12k first year. monthly ang visit and inspection.
after 1 year around 5k nalang ang subscription for the whole year.

looks expensive but at least i'm helping not to contaminate the soil with harmful chemicals.

Can you post the contact person and number of your sentricon supplier. If I may ask, how many baits were installed in your house and what's the floor/lot area. Thanks.
