Hi guys,
My bathtub made of fiberglass has a large crack (about 20cm). Is there a possibility to repair this? or I'm doomed to spend for entire bathtub replacement?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Cheers,
DC
Re: Bathtub cracked
HI there DC,
I cannot help you directly since I don't have a bathtub in the house, LOL but what I can suggest is that you Google this " How to repair a fiberglass bathtub crack " and you will get several ideas on how to repair your bathtub, lots of topics and information how to DIY the repair. :2thumbsup:
You will just be required to do for the mean time some readings and research.
Hope you find the right answers to fix your bathtub.
Good luck bro :trampoline: :superhero:

Re: Bathtub cracked
I am presently constructing a 23-foot wooden sailboat and I plan to sheathe the hull with fiberglass and epoxy.
I would assume epoxy resin could be used to repair your bathtub as well. Epoxy resin comes in two parts (resin and hardener) and are mixed in exact proportion. It has the consistency of hotcake syrup but can be thickened with sawdust or special light powders that prevent it from dripping.
Try Polymer Products in Pasig at J Borris, off C-5 ( http://www.polymerprod.com/ ), for epoxy resin and Stopsag (the light powder). They may also give you some advice on colorants (epoxy resin is translucent).
The trick, though is how to get the resin into the crack.
If you have a vacuum cleaner, cover the hose with some rag then train the hose on the crack and pour epoxy on the opposite side of the crack. The idea is to suck the epoxy into crack.
Alternatively, you may want to enlarge the crack with a grinder, then use the thickened epoxy like putty into the crack.
Make sure you wear gloves. Many people develop severe allergies to uncured epoxy.

Thanks for responding Balarila and Rosy.
I guess DIY is a hit and miss affair for me, and this suddenly became urgent since it's now leaking water.
Anybody here who can handle removal and reinstallation of a new bathtub?
Re: Bathtub cracked
No more DIY, bathtub replaced. Also most people I talked to are not confident of a "good as new" repair.
Re: Bathtub cracked
Sorry to hack this thread. I have a late 80's metal bathtub. There are bubbles/chip/rust in the paint. How do I restore it? I have access to an air compressor. I just need somebody to do it for me.

You may want to read my post above.
Try asking Polymer Products for some advice on materials and methodology.
I think you should replace the new bathtub to ensure safety.

Crack in your bathtub is very big that’s why I am saying replacing your bathtub with a new and better one bathtub is a good option other than the old one. Get further help here https://www.aresearchguide.com/1steps.html as you should be careful for using your bathtub next time.
