Bros,

I have a clogged drainage pipe in our house.

What are my other options. It is not easily accessible. 🙂

Please share your experiences.

Thanks

Re: Clogged down drainage pipe

You can try using lye flakes(solid) put it sa sink sir and add warm water until it dissolves then wait 15mins before flushing it with tap water. Kung clogged pa din try mo Lang again. 1kg of solid lye cost around 90pesos Lang.

Another option is to use liquid sosa(liquid lye) just pour it straight then wait for 10mins before flushing it with tap.

Be careful Lang since lye is corrosive eso the solid type.

I tried liquid sosa already. Negative results.

This is a vertical down drop drainage pipe servicing our cemented rooftop ( terrace ). There are three all in all and one is clogged. I think it is clogged somewhere on the ground floor already where the water is suppose to flow to another horizontal pipe then going to the drainage.

If all else fails are there companies doing unclogging services. I believe some have some powered tools for this purpose.

I will try the lye first.

Thanks for the reply.

Re: Clogged down drainage pipe

If the lye fails, try to use a plumer's snake. It's the one they insert and make "suksok hugot" to agitate and eventually remove the clogs. Similar to what the DPWH uses in drainage declogging operations.

I think I saw one at our favorite big toys store 😉

The conventional one.

I believe I have one lying around somewhere in the storage room. Yes this will be my next try after the lye. The clog is probably somewhere around 7-10m from the drainage outlet.

Re: Clogged down drainage pipe

Chemicals (lye, sosa, etc) are effective only in strong enough concentrations. Any water present in the pipe will dilute whatever you put in.

If you're going to pour it from the 3rd floor and the clog is in the ground level as you suspect, then a few meters of water already in the drain pipe might be working against you. Maybe that's why the sosa didn't work.

I agree with jarod, that snake may be your best bet.

Re: Clogged down drainage pipe

future house builders be aware...prevention is worth a pound of cure.

there are commercially available 1 foot wide green plastic screens to cover the space between the rain gutter and roofing..this will prevent debris especially dried and fresh leaves from jamming the water traffic inside it. relatively cheap per lineal foot and can be fastened with rivets.

but for senior jay's problem, suksok hugot muna siguro...since a plastic bottle of 500ml liquid sosa may not dent the problem at all...perhaps a truckload!

fyi: liquid sosa is more powerful than hydrochloric acid in dissolving human tissues including hair..

and for that reason...surgeons may not be able to save a suicidal patient who swallowed a sodium hydroxide (liquid sosa) than a patient who took in muriatic acid...

tsaka...mas mahal naman kasi ang liquid sosa than muriatic acid eh.:D

here is hoping that your clogged piping will unclog naturally or unnaturally..DIY mo na bro!

Re: Clogged down drainage pipe

@jayL

Roof drain go directly sa ground floor catch basin.
Try to locate it baka puno ng ng dumi kaya hindi na makababa yun tubig from the rooftop. there are two type of catch basin, one is cover with steel grate and the other is cemented cover with steel handle.

You can use wet & dry vacuum to suck out the dirt lagyan mo lang ng small diameter flexible hose yun dulo ng vacuum para magkasya sa drain.

Ginagamitan ko lang ng wet & dry vacuum yun mga baradong floor drain sa CR namin para maalis yun bara.

HTH. Goodluck

@ Bryant 77

Your tip to new house builders is a winner. Don't skimp on drainage system cost.

Hmmm the vacuum is also possible as I have a wet dry vac. Will try this too.

My other concern is that the water from above is coming out of my workshop toilet floor drainage ( ground floor ). Thus my suspicion that the clog is somewhere in the ground floor already. Both have the same line to the main drainage outlet. I will pour liquid sosa in the workshop toilet drain and see if it improves.

Thanks a lot to all those who reply.

Re: Clogged down drainage pipe

Or better yet, get a heavy duty snake and insert it from the lowest drain pipe to regurgitate the clog and eventually help to loosen it.

Re: Clogged down drainage pipe

best option now is to open the pipe somewhere to unclog it.

Sir if that is waste from your terrace then its probably sand and soil and some hair which solid lye would have a hard time declogging like what bro bryant mentioned. But still you can try using the solid lye like this, fill the problematic drain with around 5kgs of dry lye, get a long pole and try to make the lye reach the block portion, if your sure na the lye reached the clog then pour 1li boiling water on the drain. That boiling water will react violently with the lye, and hopefully dislodge the debris. Just be careful of the fumes exiting the top since I'm sure it's toxic hehehe. Just to be sure of how it will react, get a spoonful of lye, place it a porcelain cup and try adding drops of boiling water. You will be surprised and amazed heheh. Bthroom drain and toilet bowl ko took 5kgs of lye to remove what I believe is mopped up flown hir from the house which the maid always flushed sa bowl huhuhu.

Hahahaha . Somehow why do I suspect that our maid must have accidentally dropped something on the hole too. I just hope it's not plastic. They do clean the top drain strainer so I just hope they did not forget to put it back every time they removed it.

Re: Clogged down drainage pipe

Thank you very much for all those who replied.

Job done using a Ridgid Drain Clog Router.

They did not solve the problem routing through the bathroom but were successful when they did it from the pipe outlet (the one going to the canal) .

The culprits .... a shoe lace, some hair and a yellow plastic bag .

Problem solved. Paid 2.5K for the service which was worth it.

This is the service provider I used.
