electric fan slow start

hi,

i noticed that one of my fans have a very slow start - takes about 5 mins to completely turn at highest speed.

i tried to turn the fan by hand (while off) and it's binding. i haven't opened it yet, but it seems that this is bearing related. i believe new fans "do not" need oiling.

anyone here have an experience on how to replace fan bearings? special tools needed?

Re: electric fan slow start

Possibly it needs only some cleaning of the insides of accumulated dust and oil but if not really sure take it to an electrical shop and have it checked by a fan/electrical technician.

We clean our fans every quarter.

Re: electric fan slow start

Maybe it's bushings not bearings. The electric fans I opened and repaired don't have bearings but I've done a few only.

Maybe it just needs cleanup and oiling.

Re: electric fan slow start

my mga fan po na industrial na bearing type..pero mas common po yung bushing type, maybe it only needs cleaning kasi tingin ko po bushing type yan kaya medyo naninikit na.

Re: electric fan slow start

sometimes, the culprit are the dust that clogged inside, just wiped it with dry cloth and put some grease in the plastic where the bearings placed.

Re: electric fan slow start

got it all sorted yesterday... the fan is dowell 18" industrial wall fan.

not sure for other brands but this one is an easy thing to open up (no pics, was in a hurry). but the idea is, once you've removed the front and rear flimsy plasti covers, it's only a matter of 4 small long bolts that bonds the front/rear rotor to the stator windings.

yep, there weren't any bearings... (i was thinking of wheel axles), nevermind.

it was a hard pull, really... there was binding in both front and rear bushes. i was expecting brass bushes, but they weren't. to cut the long story short, after i've pulled everything apart, everything slid back easily.

i can't say what contributed to the binding, but after i've taken things apart, everything was smooth again even during dry fitting. there weren't any scratched, burns marks, nor rusting. i've placed retinax hd3 before i assembled back to the wall.

back to normal.

ironic, but this wall fan was just a year old and the other industrial 3d stand fans that i have are over 4 years old and wern't opened yet and still worked same as the first day.

Re: electric fan slow start

Had a bad experience with a Dowell desktop fan some years back. Burned out after a few days of use. Returned it to Sogo (where I bought it from) and got a different brand instead.

Re: electric fan slow start

may energy savings ba ang bearing type fan vs bushing? or durability lang ba yung bonus?

Re: electric fan slow start

kung umiikot ito at walang tunog/o sumasayad habang umiikot, malamang ay capacitor po.

ang bilhin mo ay yung Standard brand capacitor with the same capacitance.... kapag generic ay ganyan po ang karaniwang problema.
