Re: Firewall waterproofing dilemma - is their a solution at all?

I found out that using Flexseal elastomeric paint is the best solution for your waterproofing problem. I have 20 years experience in waterproofing and have used Flexseal since early 90's and found out that they are the only elastomeric that really works here in the Philippines.

Not to say Ive not tried the new elastomeric paints in the market today like sun n rain and rain n shine, they both are lousy at waterproofing. This you may confirm yourself - try buying a quart of sun n rain and paint it on a concrete panel. After drying, put just a little bit of water on top of it - i guarantee you that bubbles and blister will form in about less than 5 mins. The other elastomeric rain n shine naman is just a latex paint packaged as an elastomeric coz no.1 - it is really flat (ask any paint company they will say that flats are latex), 2 - it doesnt waterproof (try putting it on a shoebox interior and fill it up with water, i guarantee you not only leaks but water pours down all over!).

I advise you to put in at least 3 coatings of flexseal on your firewall and your problem will disappear and the colors will last you for a long time.

Haha.. Product promotion yan bro ah.. Sa inyo ata yang Flexseal.... Pansin ko lang.... Peace..

Re: Firewall waterproofing dilemma - is their a solution at all?

The best ba talaga Flexseal? The previous waterproofing of our firewall was done almost nine years ago and now the rainwater pours like a waterfall inside the house. The waterproofing material used was like an asphalt (i don't know what brand but they are the ones using by the construction company here in our place who also do waterproofing services). The paint painted in the wall looks like asphalt was so thin, and when I looked/inspected the firewall now, there appears some curvy white lines, seems they are the leaks. I thought of putting "yerong linso"all over the firewall, would it work and stop the leaks or should I use flexseal elastomeric paint? Will it cost too much if I use the first or the latter? Thanks.

The "asphalt" you used is a bituminous coating...kinda like coal tar. And if you decide to recoat your wall, you may want a serious inspection for cracks and have those injected or filled first before doing waterproofing again.

Thanks chemical bro for the reply & information. Actually I don't know much about other chemicals for waterproofing except elastomeric paints advertised in the newspapers. I think you're right my firewall needs inspection and needs a repair, too. Are you in the waterproofing services? Oh...no,no.. are you the one who posted about waterproofing the roof deck? Am I right? I also need a waterproofing servicesThanks again.

Oh, no. I just know some people. I can refer you someone in this business. PM me your contact details and I'll see what my friend can do for you. From what I've heard from him, they've been around a very long time already. Very trustworthy when it comes to these types of repairs.

That is because bitumens oxidize with time. Sometimes a re-coat does the trick. Shell has a good bitumen based waterproofing system.

Re: Firewall waterproofing dilemma - is their a solution at all?

I bought a 10 year old house with asphalt shingle roofing. The roof also seems to be leaking at the firewall-roof intersection. Will adding GI flashing stop the leak in the roof? Will GI flashing work with asphalt shingles? If not, do you know roofing experts with experience in repairing asphalt shingle roofs? There aren't many houses with asphalt shingle roofs in the Philippines.

Thanks for the help.

Get in touch with the person from whom you bought the house, he may still have the warranty certificate of the Asphalt shingle roofing. Most Installers of quality asphalt shingles give warranties ranging from 10 to 15 years. Some maybe more. Its a long shot but who knows, you might end up having it serviced for free. If not get a contractor that specializes in shingles.

Do you mean our firewall just needs a re-coating using Shell bitumen... Where can I buy that thing and how much it costs? I plan sana the firewall to be inspected first coz' [COLOR="Navy"]portion of the firewall has a double wall... from an old house. Perhaps it adds to the cause of leaks. Moreover, the roof of our neighbor is attached to our wall making it their wall too:mad:. In your profile, I saw below signature GACA construction... waterproofing services? Maybe you can help me.

Chem Brother, I sent PM to you twice but I'm afraid it didn't reach you, I might sent them the wrong way, don't know yet how to PM...anyway can you do PM to me the one you are going to refer or your contact # (if its ok with you) 'coz right after the rainy season, I want the waterproofing be done immediately. Again, thanks.

Hi guys,

Asking for waterproofing solution for firewall, roof decks, concrete gutters, GI Roof?

I'm using 100% Epoxy coating for all those types.. medyo may kamahalan nga lang. I already used it in various works in MWC and other establishments and residential and so far for 6 years wala pa naman feed back or rework even claiming warranty..

Kung medyo economical waterproofing solution, ok na yun elastomeric ( Boysen or Davies, but on my projects, industrial type ang gamit ko 100% pure) with 2 layer fiber reinforcement..

Andyan yun mga projects na nagawa ko na at ilan sa mga pictures may details na pwede mo magamet..
