Guys patulong naman, pano ko ba sisimulan ang restoration ng flooring namin? at yung pinaka cost effective na DIY po sana :).

Medyo napabayaan kasi walang nakatira.. It's like nawala na yung kintab nya then madaming droplets ng paint nung nagpintura ng kisame at walling.

Gusto ko lang ibalik yung shine nya at eventually ma-remove yung mga paint sa floor.

TIA

Re: HELP restoring wood flooring

If you are to DIY your wood flooring and would desire to bring back luster on them, then you will have to dedicate some time perhaps during weekends when you are not busy from work. You may also have to set aside some cash for expenses on materials you will use or probably some tools you will eventually need during the process like different grits of sand papers, different sanding and polishing tools, few gallons of sanding sealers, wood stains, and your top coat finishing like poly or valspar varnish or simply just floor wax and lots of spare rugs( basahan ), brushes as well. Oh if you have already a vacuum cleaner, so much the better, its for removing wood dust during floor sanding. DIYing should be done on stages so it doesn't complicate your work.

I guess if I were to work on it, I will start by removing the dried paint off the floor by wiping them with some mineral spirits, lacquer thinner, paint thinner or kerosene, what ever, then let it dry. After which I will do some sanding of the wood flooring, portion by portion lang para hinde nakaka lula, with different grits of sand papers, from course to medium then the very fine finishing sander. If you have a belt sander, that would greatly help in the initial stages, then a sheet sander and a circular palm sander for the finishings. After finishing all the sanding process and have cleaned and vacuumed all the wood dust, next is applying some coats of clear wood preservatives like those anti termites and wood borers that can be purchased at home depots or mall hardware stores, then let it dry completely before applying wood sealers by brush, let dry completely , the next is the wood stain, also by brush, the more coats you apply, the darker the wood surface becomes.

Now in the last stage, you may apply poly or valspar varnish by brush or by spray to have an even coat or you can just apply several coats of floor wax and then buffing it several times with a buffing machine or tool.

Hope this will initially help you but let's wait for the real wood masters here, they may add more worthwhile tips and techniques in your DIYing floor re-furbishing project.

FUNNY ! I just remembered a member had a similar task in mind before but his is their T&G wood ceiling that he wanted to give some new look and bring back its shine and wood character and he did quite well, it came out beautiful as well.

GOOD LUCK !!! 😉 :goodluck:

Re: HELP restoring wood flooring

Well I'm glad I could help somehow.

Try to get good quality sanding tools that you can afford, kasi mapapa sabak ng husto sila sa malaking project mo. If possible get them from reputable suppliers or industrial shops that assures accessories for them and offers warranty and after sales service. 😎 Try to avoid the surplus tools, they might not last long since their electrical requirement or current is different from ours which is 60HZ and theirs requires a lower current.

GOOD LUCK again bizman on your future tool hunt !!! 😉

Re: HELP restoring wood flooring

If you can manage to have it sanded by a pro contractor it can set you back by as much as P15 - P25/ square foot. Kung kaya naman di mas madali ung next stage w/c is DIY finishing.

Am considering this arrangement, cost cutting on equipment + time saving on rigid sanding. last step is much doable, DIY finishing - cool! 🙂

:thanks:

Re: HELP restoring wood flooring

If the area is less than 20 sqm. then I'd go for a sanding contractor. Polyurethane varnishes cost around 3-5k per set covering an area of about 25-30sqm. Time, money saved and controlled finishing results are your best outcome. If you really want to DIY sanding consider this...Heavy duty Belt sander w/c is necessary based on your floor condition (as posted) may cost around 4-6K. Random orbital sander flat pad series another 3K, consumables - Sanding belts - 120.00/ piece. Sand paper 10.00/sheet Rosy is correct when he said avoid surplus units as they are usually 50hz. I have a bunch of burnt surplus aussie units that only worked for minor sanding projects but not the kind of undertaking you have in mind.

Restoring wood flooring is not that big of a deal. You should definitely not ask Fire Damage Restoration Des Moines IA for help. They are needed for much greater restoration purposes.
