1. Nakakataas po ba ng consumo or mabilis ikot ng metro kapag nakawater pressure tank ka? vs. passive lang or using the pressure galing sa maynilad with the same consumption or usage?
Re: High water bill because of water pump
ilan ba kayo sa household at magakano average consumption (in cubic meters) at average monthly bills nyo?
we'll compare.

Re: High water bill because of water pump
Hope I can help. I work for Manila Water (not Maynilad).
I won't advise connecting your pump directly to your water service. If you pump directly, i.e. from the street pipe and there is a leak somewhere on the street mainline, air could get sucked in and your meter may read air together with the water, hence, you pay more. What's worse, if that leak is underground and in a wet area (usually is), you may suck in contaminants. Not very good for a dental clinic.
Best to have a cistern (ground level or below ground tank), even a small one, then pump from the cistern. That way, you can fill the cistern by gravity, i.e. through the normal flow from your service, then you can safely pump from there.
If you can afford it, you may even install an overhead tank (usually at the roof) so you can pump up from the cistern into the overhead tank at night, then enjoy water throughout your property all day without having the pump constantly turning on and off. Just size your tanks properly so you store just enough water for not more than one day's worth so that you still have good protection with the residual chlorine.
Re: High water bill because of water pump
@Baralila
Re: High water bill because of water pump
33 cu.m. is just about right for 7 people and a Dental Clinic. It's the commercial rate that is killing you.

Re: High water bill because of water pump
Hello blackswan,
I totally agree with sir balarila, if you can afford to install an overhead tank, like the stainless water reservoir from Bestank or other brands sold at hardwares or home depots, that will save you a lot of money in water bills and electric bills, though not much on electric bills. Maybe you could get a water tank that can storel water which will last you for 2 or 3days of use, maybe the initial expense will be high on purchasing a water tank, plus installation of piping and others but in the long run it will be worth it. 😉
Actually I don't like that electric pump constantly turning on and off several times a day just to have a water supply for the day, malinaw na gastos din sa kuryente. Have a short story to share, my wife's client a few years back lost their house due to fire because their electric pressure pump over heated while it was pumping water, the maids didn't know what to do then since the owners where at the mall that time and the children where in school. Some sad story loosing almost all of your belongings na napondar all your life, luckily nobody was hurt or died in that fire.
In my case I have a large concrete water reservoir constructed that can store water for 4 to 5 days and a well pumped by a mechanical pump and an electric motor with 1.5 HP that runs for 3 hrs every four days.
Just simply installed large filters on the pipe installation for assurance to filter out some residue like sand, rust and other impurities.

Re: High water bill because of water pump
The pump does not directly affect the cost.. The rate per cubic meter is the problem.. In my situation we have a canteen, and a sari-sari store, although it does not really consume that amount of water the bill is high enough due to commercial rate..
The solution, we had another water meter installed.. And we use the water from the new line more often than the old one. Since the new line is categorized as residential rate, water is much cheaper..
It cost us around 8k to have the new water line installed. but in the long term its cheaper on the bills...
Re: High water bill because of water pump
Or you may also check for leaks. A small leak is magnified when pressure is added.
Re: High water bill because of water pump
Hi, sa experience ko po, check nyo lang kung may one way valve na nakainstall immediately after the meter. In theory, hindi dapat tumaas waterbill nyo kung lahat ng sinipsip na tubig nung electric pump will be stored in the reservoir in the house (electric bill lang ang tataas). Hope this helps.
Re: High water bill because of water pump
Re: High water bill because of water pump
Your paying a commercial rate for your household use.
Better to have a separate meter for your business and for your house. That's a logical thing to do.

There are many different solutions available depending on budget and your tolerance for maintenance. There are cementitious compounds, polyurethane and epoxy paints, etc. Some may need more frequent re-application than others. But best to consult some experts in this forum. Tank lining is beyond mine. Do some search in this forum as I recall there has been some discussion on waterproofing. Whatever you choose, make sure it is food-grade.
Re: High water bill because of water pump
@bala
yeah, it's the 'food grade' bit that's hard to decide upon. i have a concrete cistern tank which i'm rehabilitating. i found that it's original lining had begun to flake off, so i had scraped off.
the lining seemed to be paint-like. either latex or a epoxy (though don't know how epoxy would curl up and peel). the underlying concrete's smooth and undamaged, probably has sahara or something.
food-grade epoxy's the easiest choice in terms of safety. but the quotes i get vary from 4k to 40k, so independent research's mandatory 🙂

zepol, It may depend on whether you are stopping water coming in or getting out, so it may be necessary to water-proof both inside and out. (But if you can figure a way to water-proof the outside of the base please let me know.)
