Hi all,

I have these glass shelves, they have plastic holders.

Unfortunately the holders have broken off. So most of them look like this now

I want to replace them with these kinds of metal holders that's more permanent, but the hole is too large for these. What can y'all suggest I do? Can I use some sort of wood filler to make the hole smaller? Pioneer Epoxy? Specific brand? Where can I buy it?
I'd like it to look as clean as possible. Thanks.

Re: How do I repair shelves

drill the hole in a different location so you will have full strength, then fill the broken holes with filler and paint.

click my signature and it will take you there........

Re: How do I repair shelves

Thanks. What kind of filler do I look for at the hardware store?

I was hoping I could fill the existing hole, cause drilling beside it would leave an ugly mark. I won't be able to match the paint finish. I supposed if there's no choice...

How big are the holes? Would the dimension fit wooden dowels? If so use wooden dowels as your holder. I think there are even metal holders.

Tinuro sa akin ng mga pioneers ng forum na makakakita ng mga dowels sa "to suy" sa may t.mapua sa sta. cruz

even if you fill the old holes with epoxy, it's only as strong as the plastic around it. new holes as suggested by timber are more secure. else ream out the old plastic anchors first. before filling them in. either way it's a lot of work.
bringing a sample of the old anchors to to suy's a good idea. buy a lot if you find the right size, and keep replacing them as needed.

Will JB weld work on this particular scenario? I know if does work well on plastic and metal but am not sure about the wood part.

HEHEHEHE, if only you have some knowledge in welding or metalworking, that big hole on the cabinet will not be a problem, its very easy to fabricate that shelf catch, you just have to be imaginative and innovative bro.

Or maybe you can find some wooden dowels that will fit the holes on your cabinet, then attach or glue a piece of small nice flat solid wood on the dowel outside the hole. Probably you can flatten a bit of the dowel where you will attach the piece of wood.

Cheers and good luck.

+1 Best suggestion so far. No extra holes, no reaming, no filling and finishing. Original look will be intact.
