my 1st post! 🙂
Handyman-DIY enthusiast here, and im delighted to join this site.
I have a simple question on how to mount stuff into a Drywall, particulary hardiflex on metal studs. Im used to mounting on concrete walls using standard tux+screw, but i havent tried mounting on drywalls yet.
Im planning to mount a wall fan and a set of shelves on the studs. I dont have a stud finder so id probably use a magnet to locate the stud beneath the hardiflex wall. My question is, what type of screw or tux , etc should i use for this project?
thanks and more power!
Re: How to Mount stuff into Drywall
the question is whether the frame will bear the load.
metal frame walls derive much stiffness from their covering wall. they aren't the same as a wood frame wall made of 2x2 and 2x4.
i wouldn't try it unless the studs were reinforced for that purpose.

Re: How to Mount stuff into Drywall
i plan to mount a wall fan and some shelves only sir. what you think?
Re: How to Mount stuff into Drywall
I think the fan is light enough to be supported by the wall. How thick is the wall panel, by the way?
For the shelves... it depends on what you're going to put on the shelves.
Re: How to Mount stuff into Drywall
You need to screw directly on the studs. Standard spacing of studs is 24", some are 16" apart.
Im using Fischer brand screw & plug. There are screws and plugs for different applications. Available at any Ace hardware. Medyo mahal nga lang few pieces cost a P100+.
Re: How to Mount stuff into Drywall
thanks! probably not much weight on the shelves, just books maybe. My specific question would be for the screws and plugs, do we need a specific plug for metal studs? im assuming we cant use the standard and cheap concrete screw/tux set in ACE.
Re: How to Mount stuff into Drywall
you don't use tox. self tapping hardiflex screws will do if you can get long ones. metal screws will also work.
if you must make a pilot hole, make it small (< 2.9mm)
use a lot of screws to distribute weight.

Re: How to Mount stuff into Drywall
Hanging wall fan on dry wall partition.
- You need to screw directly sa metal stud using metal screw. Palagay ko isang screw lang ang tatama sa metal studs. Around 1 1/2" lang ang lapad ng metal studs. The other screw sa hardiflex lang. Using ordinary screw, walang tibay. You can use this type of screw & plug (Fischer brand) available sa Ace Hardware. Pag twist mo ng screw nagtwist din yun plug sa loob para hindi agad mahugot sa boards. These are not ordinary screw so expect the mataas yun price niya.
Use same screw and plug sa wall shelves pag hindi tumama sa metal studs. You can put liquid nail sa shelves para tumibay ang kapit sa hardilex for additional reinforcement.
I already used Fischer screws & plugs na pang gypsum boards to hang paintings and glass white boards (15kgs).
Take Note: Just select appropriate fixing material depending sa weight na isasabit mo at material na paggagamitan mo ng screws.
HTH.
Re: How to Mount stuff into Drywall
bro migs,
for hanging wall fan, pwede ring maglagay ka ng plywood/plyboard or any wooden board na makapal (ideally 3/4" thk) at mas malaki (haba at lapad) sa base ng wall fan mo. screw it to the wall, mas maganda kung tatamaan mo ang studs. at dito sa board na ito kakapit ang screw na sasabitan ng wall fan mo.
Re: How to Mount stuff into Drywall
(practice lang. so I chose an old thread.)
Drywall is the gypsum board type, in my case. I have that in my interior room walls and ceiling. The fan or shelf of books may be heavy. More so, if you try to tighten the screw for better grip, the drywall will compress and the gypsum be crushed to dust (yes, powdery dust). The paper-thin singleply backing may tear.
Plywood base spreads the pressure on a greater area but still the studs are so thin, better be on the vertical stud or the weight will deform your stud and board underneath the plywood. I imagine a gap behind the plywood will be observable.
Sorry. I would welcome positive news. I only have self-standing furnitures to cover my walls.

Hindi naman siguro drywall ang apat na pader ng TS.
Eh di yung mabigat na wall fan dun sa CHB or wooden wall ikabit.
Just...[COLOR="Red"]DRILL IT!
