I need to attach an exhaust fan to the ficem board ceiling. Toggle bolts and the like are needed, but they are expensive (or I'm just a tightwad).

Get some scrap pieces of metal sheets. Tin cans will do. Fold if necessary so it can give more "grip." These are from metal furrings, BTW.

Smear some Vulcaseal (or FedSeal)

Attach to the ficem board (sorry for the blurred image)

Normally you should wait for the adhesive to fully cure (overnight?).

I couldn't wait this time. So after 2 hours I "drilled" pilot holes, making sure that the metal strip is clamped tight to the ficem board.

Re: Improvised fastener for ficem boards

Exhaust fan installed

I think I just saved at least P150.

Re: Improvised fastener for ficem boards

ang tanong...pano mo i-cut yung square hole para sa exhaust fan?

wala na bang ducting palabas ng bahay yung exhaust fan mo? diretso lang sa ceiling?

thanks
