You are most likely to encounter those charcoal cartridge or activated carbon type recirculating exhaust. The Ratio of success to failure is low. The unit has a charcoal cassette that has to be replaced very often and in most cases the stove surrroundings still wind up with oil and grime. What you need to get is a range hood exhaust that has a high CFM rating that can suck even the heavy air that has been charged w/ oil from cooking. The unit has to have an oil collector tray or bin that catches most of the oil that is sucked by the unit reducing the grime in the duct line. A company called GN stainless in E. Rodriguez (CULMAT BLDG.) that sells Japanese range hoods has this feature. I have used their RINNAI brand for my projects from 10years past (15 kitchen builds) and no complaints so far. Pls take note of the slope of your duct line and the length limit of the ducting for the model you choose. Good luck!:)

Re: kitchen exhaust fan

can you post a pic of your existing exhaust fan?

i bought recently a high cfm industrial type exhaust fan brand name Vector and still to be installed when i have the time...i need to make a framing made of angular bars eh..i bought it at handyman at 4.2K...and the size is only 12".

wall type exhaust fans with plastic blades and metal louvre (similar size) will only set you back for less than 1.5K

@willy,

i still have the two burner rinnai gas stove for the dirty kitchen and its proven built to last! hehe

Re: kitchen exhaust fan

Yes V, they are built to last. The same original brand from Japan is being sold by GN Stailnless. The way they test or show you that their unit works effectively is they let the hood suck a 1-2lbs. pot cover or Caldero top. The ones used for GOTO and Mami. That thing sucked like a hoover vac from 6" away from the suction port and when we let go, the cover stayed stuck while the unit was still on. Now that's suction! It did set my clients 9-14K for their 60cm and 90cm models but no more cartridges to replace and the oil collector tray was really effective not to mention that my clients kitchen always stayed fresh smelling not of burnt oil and grimy stove top.

Re: kitchen exhaust fan

Guys, i also want to say something about it, If you are using the kitchen area to its full prospective then you are probably throwing up considerable volumes of wetness and warm and of course scents. While this is a best part, it is not absolutely excellent all of the time...

Re: kitchen exhaust fan

hi. we are remodeling our kitchen. i want the cooking stove to be inside the kitchen (the only kitchen). typically, pinoys have the "clean" kitchen and the dirty kitchen. hehe. i want to have only one kitchen, not the typical "for show" only kitchen that is hardly being used. one of my concerns is the grime, grease, and smoke when cooking. cabinets and other items (including the ceiling) near the stove have this sticky, yucky surface. has anyone here tried constructing their own kitchen exhaust? kindly share your projects. thanks.

Re: kitchen exhaust fan

anski, as mentioned by willy, what you need is a range hood. some stove models (counter top model) already comes with a range hood. you need to really scout around depending on your budget and needs for cooking. the one we have used before are just the standard range hood that comes with the stove, it does not have any oil collector, just the filter and it has serve as well for years. all you need to do is buy an extra 1-2 filter and just rotate it every month and simply clean the used one every month. i also tried using 2 filter instead of 1 and notice thats its more effective, you just remove and clean the outer filter and put the new filter at the back, the previous 2nd filter you put it in the outer part - just like rotating it, except your using 2 set of filters at a time ... cheers

Re: kitchen exhaust fan

one more thing, in your remodelling, read some articles in the internet about the triangle concept in your kitchen layout. having a properly organized kitchen based on your style and habits will make cooking and dish washing more enjoyable. in the house my wife and i are building now, i plan to have the stove in an island type table half of which is made of hardwood to serve as a cutting/chopping area. i saw it in my friends house and it really is practical and makes sense 🙂 ... cheers
