Re: koi pond anyone?

Regarding pics, for some reason i cannot upload pics, but will try to post it in a link or something. design will be simple, clean lines, rectangular pool running straight along the wall of the terrace. The biofilter pond will be roughly three hollow blocks high and about 1 meter by 1 meter, with a drop off on one side to the koi pond which will be two hollow blocks high to the edge of the terrace maybe 3 meters long by 1 meter wide. Terrace is strong, solid footings with tie beams and reinforced concrete slab. Problem is wifey goes to these guys selling "koi" for 30 pesos out of a kiddie pool and they tell her its simple just put this in and this and you will be fine. Its hard for me to convince her to do it properly you need to spend more and it will last longer, Seems am between a rock and a hard place and will just have to bite the bullet on this one and let it go the way it will go and deal with the fallout later and try not to tell her "i told you so."

Re: koi pond anyone?

Her requirement may not be as difficult as it seems, "just a couple of fish". Sitting height may around 24"? If she's ok with those 30 peso koi's, then this might be enough. Bottomline will be to limit the quantity of fish with the amount of filtration you're willing to do, of course you take into account their size a few years from now.

An 18" high pond will be ideal for goldfish, just need to have the patience to find those good looking top view goldfish, meaning they look good when viewed from above.

If its close to your garden, then its better, water change every week and use it to water your plants.

You can even grow some watercress in your filter chamber.

Dumb mistakes will always be dumb mistakes, unless . . . . you learn from it, and then it will be learning experience.
