Re: Latex paint for plywood?
I'm gonna paint the walls and ceilings of our home...wall panels are hardiflex while the ceiling is your regular 1/4 plywood. hindi naman kaya mapili sa pintura ang hardiflex?
may binanggit pa nanay ko na may nilagay na parang powder daw yung mga naunang nagpintura sa ibang bahagi ng bahay para maging smooth ang surface....ano kaya yun? would that be your calcium carbonate? apog?
any information would be greatly appreciated sirs!

Its called calsomine..off white powder and mixed with choice color of paint tsaka iminamasilya.
old school na yan bro..
use acrylic putty..cheap lang..parang masilya...RJ is the brand..1 gallon for about 350p, availble at most hardware stores in malls or home depots/wilcon...good for 10 sheets of plywood..(my own estimate)..sandable after and paintable using any acrylic paint.
any other suggestion from the masters please chime in.

Re: Latex paint for plywood?
In short, old way is neutralize, patch with patching compound and then paint. New way is concrete primer and sealer, patch with patching compound mixed with concrete primer and sealer then paint.
Conventional practice, I'm told, is to prime concrete with Boysen Permacoat Flat Latex B-701 White, "100% acrylic latex". Prior to painting with something like Boysen HealthyHome or Davies Bio-Fresh. The B-701 does seem powdery when dry. So is this an old school primer and no longer recommended?
If so, what are the options (actual brand and product names) for new school, filler-free "concrete primer and sealer" ... besides FlexSeal Prime-R Concrete Primer and Sealer? For concrete.
Is there anything in the Boysen line? Davies?

thanks sir violane....
in that case, i've tried before the plasolux glazing putty by boysen on a simple project of mine....akala ko kung ano na yung binanggit ng nanay ko. yun lang pala.

bro the thread is latex paint for plywood..anyway that is still ok and holds true for concrete but since the emergence of siliconized one step primer and final coat for concrete, i.e. Sun and Rain (by Davies) eh i forgot all about Boysen's Permacoat 701..but boysen is still of course my favorite sanding sealer (three choices) for wood..and their mahogany oil stain.
plasolux is enamel based and would need enamel based paint like any boysen quick dry enamel paint...meaning you cant use latex based paint to top it..of course it will cover the putty but you can easily scrape it off.

Re: Latex paint for plywood?
we've done this at our home.
latex paint for plywood, its cheaper.
kailangan lang meron daw dating pintura ang plywood/wooden area na pipintahan nito.
Re: Latex paint for plywood?
When I was a little boy (about 12), I painted the interior of our house while my parents and siblings were away for a vacation. I used Latex on wood (mga stock sa storage room). Later on, I realized that latex, being water based, corroded nails and screws of those walls I've painted thereby staining them. So now, whenever I need to paint wood or metal, it's always enamel.

that is fine if that suits you..in fact enamel has more to offer in terms of protection vs acrylics in my little own experience.
better yet if you get the low odour imported enamel based paints like Ace or Dulux.
but try to discover the wonder of quick drying acrylics as well...cheaper in the long run coz you dont have to buy expensive mineral spirits or related thinning agents...coz its water based!
another pros on the use of acrylics..more premixed colors than enamels...unless like i said, you buy imported enamel paints.
btw...if you resort to having your paints mixed to your desired color, a gallon of Boysen acrylics can cost around 2000 pesos or more...(Wilcon balintawak).

Re: Latex paint for plywood?
Thanks Sir Violane. I will check that out. I always welcome new things and ideas. I usually look for a better way to do things.
My question about your quick-dry acrylics though: being water based, doesn't it corrode metal parts like nails and screws?

Well at least now you know that water based paints are a no no to any metal surfaces maybe or unless its properly prepared or primed. He he he he, Di ba may kasabihan na ANG PINAKA MAHIGPIT NA KALABAN NG BAKAL AY TUBIG.
Yes its enamel for wood and metal and latex for concrete or stone. 2thumbsup:

hehe..it wont corrode because you still need to primer the material before the acrylic paint application...
even enamels, it still needs a primer before its application otherwise the material will just absorb and absorb the enamel paint resulting to uneven coverage..
another thing with enamel, the coat is difficult to sand (aside from waiting for long hours to dry)..its "gummy" leaving your sandpaper quick to fill up with no chance of reuse.
soon i am going to remodel a room and will show how i go with these acrylics on plywood.
good luck anway on all your paint experimentation!
btw: i am using an acrylic putty to primer the plywood and of course including the nail heads...better even if you use an imported 100% acrylic primer paint that covers both the wood and seal perfectly the iron nail heads ( i dont want to advertise the brand name anymore...it expensive kasi..hehe)

@V Please give the brand name. It would be very useful to know a quality product with a positive feedback from a forum member.

Re: Latex paint for plywood?
^Ninong Jay, hammer type finish paints are very much available locally on paint centers as we used that on metal. However, have not encountered yet the one with anti-rust properties.

I was thinking that it could save a lot of time ( like doing Iron grills etc... ) if no need to clean and treat the metal. Just paint over rust.
I might order a sample on my next shipment if I can't find locally.

Re: Latex paint for plywood?
