Looking for leaks in house plumbing

Since Manila Water replaced my water meter with a new one last Dec, I seemed to have developed a leak somewhere as my January water bill jumped to 4 times what I usually pay. I've thoroughly checked every valve and toilet in my house yet even in the dead of night when everybody is asleep my water meter continually rises and doesn't stop. It would seem that the leak maybe somewhere underground. Any advice as what I should do?

Another odd thing I noticed about my house plumbing, from the Manila Water pipe, it branches into two, one pipe leading to my water tank and pump, and another going underground feeding the house directly. I think water pressure in my house comes from both my water pump and the main pipe. Are all houses like this? I would have thought that everything is fed by the water pump...

Re: Looking for leaks in house plumbing

Are there gate valves to control th flow to the tank and to the main pipe? Does the outlet of the tank have a valve?

It's difficult diagnosing the problem if there is no way to control the water. Indeed it is possible for the pipes to have developed a leak, especially for GI pipes buried underground. Acidic soil will dissolve the pipe in no time.

Yes there are. I've tried closing the valve going to my water pump, but the water meter still spins. So it would seem the leak is somewhere underground... 🙁

Unfortunately, that seems to be the case. Any other valves before the water enters the house?

Re: Looking for leaks in house plumbing

I just had my tubero take a look at the problem. He capped off the pipe that directly feeds to my house. Good news is it seems the leak has stopped, though I'm confused as to why that happened. Now all water pressure solely comes from my water pump. I noticed about a 30% drop in water pressure in the house, not bad, but could be better. As long as there no leaks, I guess I'll have to be content with this solution...

It might just be an illusion. What could be happening is that the tank is full so the water meter stops turning. But when empty, the water meter will turn again, more quickly this time. I will check consumption over a day.
