Guru's / Master,

I'm about to install wood trim or Cornish on my ceiling.

Need your valuable inputs on the "how to" to start my project. A laddered instruction will be helpful, specially proper cutting and connecting of miter joints.

Note: Wallings are not properly scaled.

thank you very much! :thanks:

Hi there bizman,

I am no wood worker yet but this is what I can contribute to your query, you can easily get tips and answers if you will Goggle this, :type: " Tips on installing wood trimmings and cornices ", simply read the different topics and watch all the videos concerning cornice installation and I suppose you will be on your way starting your project very soon.

But if you are not in a hurry then just wait for other woodworkers to chime in.

thank you for the link!

my only concern about this project, is to figure-out techniques in cutting and connecting cornering joints to have a smooth results.

btw, i consider installing trims to conceal some gaps in between the ceiling and walls.

Re: Need tips on installing Cornisa (wood trim)

From my experience, I built and used a miter sawing box so that I can have accurate miter cuts. The miter sawing box should be able to hold the corniza in place like it is in its installed position, meaning slanted already. I found it better to measure the cut lengths on the bottom of the corniza rather than the top length. I also found it better to use a backsaw instead of the usual carpenters cross-cut or rip saw. Attached are photos of a miter sawing box and a backsaw so you'll have an idea.

Of course what I mentioned above is for manually cutting the cornizas. A power miter saw can do all of these with ease, if you have one. I hope this helps you.
