we just move in our new house here in cavite last month. .recently i noticed this nasty odor from our ground floor bathroom,,parang my mAbahong singaw galing sa lavatory,,but the other bathroom, hindi nmn,,then i noticed n parang wala kame nung singawan ng septic tank, something like a PVC pipe erected vertically in a way between the BR and septic tank like what i've seen in a most common houses,,or maybe meron pero hindi ko lng alam (maybe other design lng). .what causes the odor,,what should i do?:thanks:
Re: Our bathroom has a nasty odor
Sounds (or smells) like your lavatory doesn't have a U (or P) trap. That trap retains some water that prevents gas (methane) from leaking back up the lavatory.
You can read more about it here:

How to repair... it depends. Please post some pictures, they tell thousands of words. 🙂
Re: Our bathroom has a nasty odor
Have the same problem in ALOT of hotels in CHINA
Back there back in 19XX they never used P-traps or U-traps.
Since its a new house just have the contractor or seller remedy it.
They will probably kill the current drain and then chisel and dig away several inches from it then install the p-trap and connect it to the drain. If they were to have the p trap installed without moving the current drain, they will have to move the ENTIRE drain underneath which would be close to impossible since nakabuhos na.
Re: Our bathroom has a nasty odor
lagyan ng p trap just what sir joey said
Re: Our bathroom has a nasty odor
mga sirs, is this the p-trap ur referring to?

opo p trap po yan sa lavatory, meron din pong p-trap na pvc yun po ang inilalagay to block the odor from the septic tank. usually sa floor drain ng banyo nakaconnect
Re: Our bathroom has a nasty odor
thank u sir,,i'll ask the developer about the plumbing nung house kung meron nyan
Re: Our bathroom has a nasty odor
And do insist that they do something about it. Invite him to your house and let him understand and realize your predicament.
Re: Our bathroom has a nasty odor
pano kaya malalaman kung may nakainstall na u trap sa bathroom floor sink? and besides yung bahay ko din parang wala akong nakikitang VENT ng poso negro.yung ibang bahay kasi parang may singawan sa tuktok ng bahay
Re: Our bathroom has a nasty odor
Hmmm...if a trap is installed usually you would see the water's reflection (the one in the trap) by using a flashlight to aid you. Try pouring/water on it and after fills-up (nearer to the surface), you would see it gradually go down to the previous water level.
If you can't see any water near the surface, most probably your drain has no trap thus allowing the septic odor to creep up especially if it doesn't have a vent.
Re: Our bathroom has a nasty odor
thanks jarod. how about the poso negro vent in the roof? kasi parang wala akong nakitang vent,or nakatago lang kaya? or kelangan ba talaga nito? thanks

Yup. The vent is necessary. The decomposing waste in the septic tank produces methane gas. If you don't have a vent pressure will build up, and the gas will find a way out.
Nakarinig ka na ba ng dumidighay na inidoro? 😀
Now imagine it burping in the middle of the night. 😮
Re: Our bathroom has a nasty odor

Re: Our bathroom has a nasty odor
(another old thread .. he he)
I came across this one. If everything was done right and the contractor has a good reputation, you should expect that a sealant was used to keep the septic tank smell from seeping out of the wall drain entrance. The orange pipe, I mean. if you slightly move the decorative chrome plated steel metal touching the wall to cover the connection of the ptrap to the wall drain, notice if it uses the rubber cap that came with the ptrap assembly. if yes, probably this rubber does not do a good job of keeping the smell of the septic tank out. remember this is before the ptrap, which job it is to keep smell out. Since walang water pressure dito, the rubber seal can manage to keep the dirt water out, pero may seepage. Worse, kung floating int he air lang yung ptrap end pipe that goes into the wall which is most likely your case.
use Cord Waterstop. use with wet hands while mixing it using your fingers.
