P1,200!!! That's what my neighborhood welding shop which fabricates G.I. overhead and pressure tanks will charge me if I have the tiny (0.5cm. x 0.2cm) hole on my 500gallon G.I. overhead tank spot welded. And the shopman said it is "discounted" because I volunteered to pick him up, bring him to my house and drive him back to his shop located 2 kms. from my place.

Now, I am not about to part with my hard-earned P1,200 for something which I think is worth less than a fraction of that amount for repair.

I do not know anything about welding and the P1,200 may actually be fair. But, nevertheless, I hope you can share with me tips on how to repair that nasty hole on my tank using epoxies available in the stores.

Any help is appreciated.

Sir the price is just about right since aside from his welding skill, I guess he will also provide the welding machine and rod and also there will be risk involve climbing up your overhead tank.;) Another option you can do is to bring your tank to him instead so that way he will charge you very minimal lang:eek: Yung epoxy mahirap din Sir kasi you'll need to dry the tank, clean it, put the steel epoxy and then let it cure before you can actually load it with water again. It will take about 2 days and lots of body ache, plus the result will not be guaranteed pa:rolleyes:

Also consider that most probably, there are other areas that are rusted as bad (not necessarily visible-like forming from the inside), and will form a hole pretty soon.

It happened to us. We sealed a hole, and in a matter of months, it leaked somewhere else.

It was a temporary fix, but at least it gave us time to save up for a new one.

Re: Repair of leak on overhead G.I. tank

Thank you for your replies. What I did was seal the hole first with Pioneer epoxy. I think it did the trick. I was worried using it because I thought the pressure coming from 500 gallons of water might be too much for it to handle. It is holding up so far.

If a leak springs again then I will call that neighborhood welding shop to repair it. But for now, I will just keep my fingers crossed hoping that it will happen later than sooner.

Thanks a lot to you.

Yes KChan. Mine has been holding up for 20 days now and there are no indications that it will give up anytime soon. What I used is just ordinary marine epoxy (2 parts mixed together that formed a gray compound).
