my 30 yr. old g.i. roofing are showing some signs of rusts again. it has boysen roofguard on it for some 7 years now. i was advised lately to use rubberized paint on it so it will extend my roof's life for some 5 more years. i tried looking at some leading diy shops but most of the rubberized or elastomeric paints in the market are for concrete surfaces only. my question is where can i buy a rubberized paint for my roof? thanks.

zero, last time I checked Shell was selling rubberized roof paints for galvanized iron roofs. You might want to try MC Depot at Ortigas or Wilcon Builders along EDSA. They might be selling roof coating products from Truco, Inc. You might also want to check-out the website of Pioneer Chemicals if they manufacture rubberized roof coatings for use on galvanized roofs.

Good luck.

Re: roof paint querry

The house of my parents was built in 1962. The GI roof has always been painted with portland cement paint every 5 years or so. So far the paint has remained leak free.

I've seen Shell's weatherkote as being advertised for GI roofs. Just check if it can be painted on top of the Boysen roofguard.

Re: roof paint querry

I just got my roof painted couple of weeks back with Aquaproof. They also have a wide range of color accents both for concrete and roofing needs.

Re: roof paint querry

alwaysontop, did you still apply primer to the roof before applying the aquaproof?

How much per gallon? and where did you buy it?

Thank you.

Re: roof paint querry

The normal painting cycle for roof should be at least every 3 years, even if you used the ordinary brands of paint it will last. Our house is 50 years old and the roof is still intact, as a painting contractor i follow this cycle to make it last as long as it could hold, up to now there is no rust on it.

Re: roof paint querry

hmm... I'll be "sponsoring" our "ancestral house", i.e. my parents' house's roof repairs come my days off, the last time the sheets were replaced were just 11 years ago. so reading from this previous posts, a repaint cycle would really help in prolonging the roof, huh?
what about those "prepainted" sheets? apparently I don't need to have them painted anymore right? I mean atleast for the first couple of years that is... or should I still have them painted upon installation? (this is under the assumption that an "aftermarket" painting would last longer)

Safety first - always wear face/eye/ear/hand protection as a minimum.

b2bomber,

Pre painted roof are good for the few years, after which you should have them maintained by painting it say once every 3-5 years

Re: roof paint querry

update sa roofing ko:
i bought 11 pcs. of g.i. corrugated roof (guage 26@P300 ea.) last saturday to replace some of the badly damaged by rusts/corrosion.

medyo nagdadalawang isip pa ako sa boysen roofguard at rain or shine elastomeric paint.
P1,800+ ang 1 pail of boysen against sa P1,600+ rain or shine.

ipon ulet ako para dito.

Re: roof paint querry

Try mo flexseal elastomeric paint which has 60 colors available. Kung gusto mo flat un finish ng roofing mo then use rain or shine kasi flat yan at parang ng latex paint ka lang sa roofing mo. I have used flexseal since the early 90's and find it is the best elastomeric paint in the market today.

Pwede mo din gamitin un flexroof na gloss elastomeric paint para sa roofing mo, gawa din ng flexseal. Btw, flexseal has been the elastomeric paint choice since the 80's - original and real waterproofing talaga.

Re: roof paint querry

Ang mga paints ay may shelf life ng at least one year. Pag tingin mo tataas pintura by next year then go buy it but my advise is to buy it fresh when you need it.
