Hi Guys!

May tatanong lang ako. I had a bunch of painters that didn't do a great job. Now I have to repaint and I have decided to do it myself.

They failed to waterproof the wall in the garden prior to painting. Now lumolobo na. They also used an inferior elastomeric paint called Sun and Rain. Sabi ng Acrytex kasi.

What do I do now? The paint has blisterred exposing the patching compound. Di naman sa lahat ng areas? Do I have to remove all the paint?
I plan to remove the paint that's blistering and use any of those cement-based water proofing solutions like Aquashield plus.

Thanks guys

Re: Sun and Rain

Re: Sun and Rain

Yun wall mo ay dapat 48 days curing time. Pag tapos nito ay dapat ay i neutralizer mo lahat para sa mga active lime actions, then pwede mo na i waterproof.

I suggest using the trusted waterproofing brand like Flexseal Elastomeric Paint, dahil since 1980's pa ay meron na ito at ito ang pinakauna sa elastomeric paints. Unlike uyun mga ibang bago dyan na elastomeric paints na pareho lang sa latex paints and formula tulad ng sun and rain (which you had problem with), rain or shine, aquaguard at un destiny paint.

Trust me, use Flexseal and you will not regret it.

🙂

Thanks guys. ;D

I will strip off the paint. Repair the cracks. And then get a good waterproofing paint. Flexseal siguro or Krystol (selfsealing). Question: Do I have to remove the patching compound (mixed with paint)? Before I apply flex seal o dapat expose talaga ang bare cement.

Thanks

Re: Sun and Rain

For firewalls preferably it should be bare finish. Never use patching compound, better if you use boysen acrytex cast.

Re: Sun and Rain

makiki-ride lang ako.

i'm have an ongoing house construction and yung gagamiting paint ng contructor is Sun & Rain, both internal and external. i'm still asking for color swatches from other brands because i cannot find the exact color i want.

do you think that Sun & Rain is good for interior walls? hindi ba magiging pangit ang texture nya for interior walls?

if all the external walls are properly treated (i.e., correct healing time, poisoning, water proofing, etc.), will Sun & Rain last without bubbles?

thanks,

Why would they use an elastomeric paint for interior walls? Isn't that overkill? As long as your exterior walls are properly plastered, cured, primed, puttied with an exterior putty, finished properly then a regular latex based paint would suffice.

i guess it is overkill. but that is what the contractor included in the contract. so i thought it is better. do i have the right assumption?

thanks

Not necessarily, AFAIK interior latex paints are designed to breathe in/out moisture , I don't think elastomeric paints are breathable because they were designed specifically to repel water and moisture. Another thing is elastomeric paints have a glossy finish, it is not advisable indoors because of glare, that is why most homes have a semi-gloss or flat finish. Just my 2 cents.

I'll take note of that.

Re: Sun and Rain

Actually, elastomeric paints are not made to be glossy. They are high build coatings that relies on its elastomeric binders to waterproof your walls and roofs. Pag glossy yan, ibig sabihin ay ginamit nilang binder (resin) is for latex paint and you get what you pay for - a quasi elastomeric paint that looks and feels like an elastomeric paint but doesnt give the waterproofing capabilities of a true elastomeric paint.

With the advent of new technologies today, elastomeric paints are made to be breathable na din. And whats good for your exterior is better for your interior (rule of thumb). If you need swatches ng elastomeric paints - you can call Jim Burgos, Marketing Manager ng Flexseal at tel 466-3328. They have like more than 60 ready available colors and theyre the pioneers in elastomeric paints in the Philippines.

Btw, I saw a new forum dedicated to paints in the Philippines at http://painters.forumotion.net so check it out and ask there anything about paints.

Re: Sun and Rain

Gamit ko din sa whole house sun and rain and no problem at all, i even used it as a firewall paint ok naman for two years na. I guess sa application nagkakatalo yan eh ako lang ang nagpipintura and no regrets using this brand.
