Ok, this would be my third post in this forum Should've been my first. Sorry.
I only intended to modify my PC case with the Dremel rotary. Then, I got a blower for cleaning and a drill for screw holes. Why stop? Then, I finally made a decision to get a Dremel Sawmaw - way less violent looking than a circular saw. Then, I finally get to do my PC although it's not pretty but it's there functionally. I got to add extra shelving for my table by cutting some unused laminated particle boards. Now, I'm fully decided to make my own stuff - but I need a workbench first. I do have the skil portable.
I have yet to visit a hardware store and ask for wood because of fear that I might look stupid (which I am - newb) or ask something I read/watched on youtube that locally unavailable.
Thanks and looking forward on back reading your projects!
welcome newsboycap to PHM !!! ... you should'nt be ashamed of being a newbie, at some point in time everyone in this forum was a newbie :-). your lucky, because today you have the WWW (world wide web) where you can read/watch the things you want to learn. when i was a newbie, there was no web, just mainframes and a dial-up IP connection to communicate with others via email or bulletin boards 🙂 he he he ... for me to learn then, i have to read books in the library, talk to skilled persons, and also talk to sales persons in the hardware store 🙂 ...
as for your workbench, before deciding which wood to use, take some time to plan the workbench that you want to build and use:
- will it be stationary or portable (workbench and toolbox, etc)? if you'll be working with small items, then portable is the way to go, but it will take more time in coming up with the design to fit your needs and for easy setup and dis-assembly.
- what are the tools that you will using in your workbench?
- what are the materials that you will be working on your workbench and how big they are?
once you have the above info, the type of wood to use for your workbench (and its size) will become obvious ... cheers
Boo!
