Hi All! I am just so happy to stumble upon this group. I am very much interested in woodworking. Started last year when I was finally fed up on waiting for my hubby to have time to make the projects I have in mind. With all the tools just collecting dust, I took it upon myself to learn the craft. Since then I've made tables (picnic, console, coffee, etc) morris type bench, book shelves, coat racks and small items like serving trays, picture frames and tea boxes. I learned all this while in South Africa. And we just came home 2 weeks ago. I'm also glad that you have posted suppliers because I'm already getting frustrated here in Los Banos, Laguna as I cannot find a place to buy wood or even MDF. Anyway, will be looking forward to everyone's posts as we all share our love for woodworking =D

Hello Ellieces,

Welcome to the PHM Community.

Looks like you're doing advance woodworking already. I bet it felt great to have taken the reins and finally pulled the jobs yourself.

Please post some of your work when you have chance.

Welcome to the Philippines.

Jay

Hi Ellieces,

South African wood species have found their way here. African Padouk, Okan, Iroko and Doussie are some of the varieties we are currently using for a lot of wooden applications. They both came in logs and milled lumber. You may now have fun with local and African wood. A lot of people here are open to support you. Good luck!:)

Re: Female Newbie

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome!

Yes, it's such a great feeling every time I finish a project.

Also good to know that we can buy African wood here. Although I've only worked on Pine and MDF because we lived in a very small town and proper hard wood was also hard to get. I'm setting my eyes (and preparing my budget) for a Panga Panga Wood project. 😉

If you are interested to see my works, I have uploaded albums in my profile. Thanks again everyone!

Re: Female Newbie

Hi there again ellieces,

I just browsed over your uploaded albums and wow, your projects were all fantastic and well crafted, just can't believe a female could have that patience and skill to be able to produce or come up with such fine and well crafted pieces, I am truly amazed.

I would like to congratulate you as well as salute you for gaining that skill and craftsmanship, its very rare here in our country to have a female woodworker. May your tribe increase !!! 😉 :p

CHEERS and have a very productive day ahead. 🙂 😎

Re: Female Newbie

Thanks for your kind words, Rosy. Yup, that is my game plan upon coming home to the Philippines: to encourage other females to learn (or at least appreciate) the craft. My vision is that I will be the Martha Stewart of Woodworking in the Philippines. Hahaha! =p

As soon as our things arrive from overseas, and after I set up my workshop.... I will conduct small workshop classes. =D
