Hello to all DIY'ers. Meron po pala na self introduction forum dito na na-miss ko the last time I logged in. I was so occupied reading most of the posts in this forum.

Anyways, ako po pala si Jay, 43 years old from Pasay. Self claimed DIY'er ever since na nagka-isip ako. Since childhood, I used to make my own toys out of any material I could get my little hands on. That is because I don't have any choice back in the day. I grew up in a poor family and the household budget is better spent on the essentials. As I can remember dalawang beses lang ako naibili ng laruan ng nanay ko. So I have to make use of my hands to create my own toys from a rolling car out of a used rubbing alcohol plastic bottle with wheels made of bottle caps to wooden toy robots.

That started my passion to create things on my own. My late father used to own a small shop in Cubao doing made to order doors, cabinets, furnitures, wooden windows with capiz shells, to steel gates and windows. That was the environment I grew up with and at the age of 9, i was already working in my father's shop cutting capiz shells. A year later, I was able to learn using the martilyo, katam, pait, pati lagare. By age 11, I could competently use the planer and the tistisan and could make wooden window jalousies from start to finish.

The most important lesson I've learnt from my father is to keep in mind to always do the best possible quality in whatever thing I will make. If that would mean to take more time, so be it.

In my adolescent years, I shifted my interest from wood working to electronics from the influence of my cousins, learning to build my own audio amplifier, preamplifier, a disco mixer and speaker boxes that we used in the disco mobile together with my friends in highschool. I was also able to hack an old 45 portable turntable my mother used to own and turned it into a somewhat decent hi-fi.

In college, where I was studying mechanical engineering, my interest shifted to cars and automotive and ended up a professional car technician of a car dealership in the early 90's while I was still studying in college.

That was my DIY'er journey that really helped me today, kasi kahit ano ang sira sa bahay o gamit sa bahay na pina-aayos sa akin ni misis, kayang kaya :thanks:

Hello there Jay (jestag2),

Well based from your story, it's so nice to know of your (great) journey, education and experiences
in woodworking derived from your late father's wood shop and I think those years gave you a good foundation. And to whatever endeavors you will follow in life,
whatever lesson(s) you manage to learn from your father, it can always be applied and be put to good use.

WELCOME aboard the PHM community :welcome: and hope you do enjoy your stay ! :shake:

By the way one of our admin, bro JayL is also from Pasay, baka neighbors lang kayo, LOL
