hello my name is John i am 68 years young, living about 26k from Davao City close to Calinan, i was a welder for about 35 years, built mostly machinery, and repair in a job shop ,i went then into construction, steel buildings as a welder, at that time i learned some of the other trades , plumbing ,electrical,tile metal and wood framing, than went to work with my boss in a wood shop, building cabinets,doors, counters, i retired from there, i have some friends here in the Philippines and they talked me into a visit , that was about 3 months ago, i am helping a friend build a house, we have the concrete all but the floors finished, it is a small house about 65 sq we used local carpenters for the block and cement work, and now time for the roof, i am going to build it using steel truss and c purlins, to use the least amount of material we are building a hip roof or umbrella as they say in the Phil, 4/12 pitch , i am building the truss as bar joist from angle and round rod. He is in the process of having electric run to the property, but i think this might be a project in its self, getting the power company to install pole and so on, anyway glad to read some of the post here never to old to learn for sure.

yes i am an American, i was hoping to be finished with the roof in a few weeks, but having trouble getting electric ran to the house, if it draws out into a long wait i will go to the USA and help my son in law put up a metal building he bought last year and than come back.
