Hi! I've always wanted to work with wood but as a girl I've been told I can't. Honestly I can't use a hand saw (not enough strength and control). I think cutting (and slightly ... sanding) is not my favorite part of the process.
I'm here to learn what kind of materials, skills and power tools will make my woodworking hobby a little easier 🙂
Please help me! *lol* I tend to ask a lot of questions. 🙂

Hello Lunafancy,
WELCOME to the PHM community. I suppose you have come to the right forum since there are plenty members here enjoying this woodworking hobby and have done lots of good wood projects that can surely inspire others to follow. Just check out the WOODWORKING Forum and from there it can start you off. Check out also the TOOLS Forum and learn from the members what tools you should need for your future projects. 😉
Plus this is great, another lady woodworker in the making, eventually we have a new member by the name of Ellieces who have been doing woodworks and have done great projects in the past. She is base now in Laguna, and plans to do some woodwork seminars in the future to those interested specially for ladies like you, so check out her future post in the forum for further notices, I may say she is a good one too. :cool01:
Enjoy the site/forums and again we WELCOME you on board.

Hi lunafancy!
Welcome to PHM community! You have no idea how happy I am so see a fellow girl interested in woodworking, yehey!
Yup, as Rosy mentioned, I will be conducting woodworking seminars sometime this year. Hoping I will be all set up by June or July (I am Laguna based but I will also have workshop/seminars in MM, although QC is too far for me). In the meantime, try and check out http://ana-white.com/ , she's the one who inspired me to start woodworking. To the other woodworkers in this community, she's got nice plans in her site. =D
Welcome again! Enjoy the forums, you'll find lots of info!
Re: hello I'm new here 🙂
What! Another female?
But females cannot drive a car, swing a hammer, drink beer...
...NOT!
Whoever told you that only people who pee standing up can do woodworking is nuts. Females are proven far better at detail work than us lumbering machos. And attention to detail is one woodworking prerequisite.
Welcome to this friendly and androgynous community!

Hey ellieces,
Well if in case your plan to conduct a woodworking seminar pushes thru, then better announce it in a new thread, when, where/the place, and what time, oh will there be some minimal fees involved ?
Then maybe get names to sign up if ever they will be interested. I'm pretty sure many will be attending the seminar specially the noobs in woodworking if it will be done on a weekend. I do remember in the past, new members posting queries and asking where can they attend a woodworking school or someone giving quality seminars on woodworking and the usual answer here is none.
Anyway we will be waiting for that day and I know many woodworking members will be supporting and attending your seminars. I'll see to it and try to find time to attend, I know this will be a very fruitful day.
CHEERS and GOOD LUCK !! 😉 🙂

Hey bro Ding,
Well might as well accept the fact that females now a days are getting bolder and challenging themselves to be at par with men. Though its kinda unusual really for a female to be doing hands on carpentry or woodworking but why not, GO, GO GO !!!! Well now we have female bus and taxi drivers, women architects and engineers who go on job sites, women auto mechanics and welders plus many more. And you are right, they have proven themselves better due to patience and attention to details.
Have a fine and peaceful day ahead !!! 😀 😎

Hi! Wow you make advance projects already! I'll be sure to attend your seminar wherever it is. Do you use power tools? Actually I'm interested in making toys more than furniture. I'm actually saving up for a scroll saw. My problem though is how to cut a huge slab of wood into small pieces without losing my mind. XD

hehe thank you! 🙂 Yeah I'm into making small objects (possibly even jewelry). Do you have a scrollsaw? I plan on using it inside my apartment though, does it produce a lot of dust?

Yes I do own an excalibur EX21 lunafancy, had a makita sj401 before and both does make dust, but not enough that a vacuum couldn't handle.
I believe I still have a thread here either on the makita sj401 or srcollsaw works... I do however have a newer thread in another site.... HERE

Excalibur .. that's the brand I see in scrollsaw videos. I expect it's an expensive brand? What do you think of Ryobi? It's around 6500php.

Never tried it yet so I wouldn't evaluate....
The makita does cost a bit more, but it is what started my woodworking hobby. Made lots of names that I sold for a reasonable amount. Brought back my initial outlay for the machine plus it brought me enough to venture into other woodworking machines.
A good machine to look for is first you want to have a variable speed control, it makes cutting different sizes and density more controlable.
Next is vibration, you wouldn't want to be controling the machine instead of the work. Plus a machine with less vibration will provide better accuracy and even a cleaner cut. Which could reduce sanding time and dust, both I think you don't like:p
Imo, save up and get the makita cost about 11k and is a wonderful machine.
The excalibur on the otherhand cost about 5x the makita... Give or take.

hmn then I think I'll go with Makita. I learned the hard way that trying to get the cheapest materials actually creates more work and cost more money in the end :/
I'm reading your other scroll saw posts!! Thanks for answering my questions (^.^)v
Re: hello I'm new here 🙂
Yup, go with Makita. My first power tools were Ryobi. It worked fine until I started doing the heavy stuffs. As in rinig na rinig mo na umaangal yung motor. Hahaha! Now I buy just Makita brand. 😉
Buti ka pa matyaga mag scroll saw. Me, I will save up on laser cutter for fine intricate cutting. Madaya ako eh. =p
