Hi! I'm siore, 29y.o., a civil engineer, and my passion for guitar brought me here! Nah, really I've been DIY-ing most of my life, as far as I can remember since my elementary days (boy scouts and electronics club background), but for the past few years, it's my love for the electric guitar that has sparked me on building stuff for myself. Mostly electronics, I've been able to repair my tube amplifiers, tinker with different wiring schemes in my RJ lespaul and PRS Santana SE, and build a few stompboxes and guitar effects.

My dad and lolo (both deceased) were also 'handymen' in every sense of the word, and aside from the internet, I consider them as my source of inspiration and were my initial fountains of knowledge. They got me started. My dad said once, "if you can't fix it, read about it. If you still can't wing it, pay someone to do it... then watch how it's done." My lolo was sole proprietor of Oicer, I don't know if anyone is old enough to have had dealings with him, but he had a small workshop in their house, and I know he dabbles in electronics and hi-fi audio.

Also, my dad left me a few woodworking tools. Basic stuff. Hammer, crosscut saw, hacksaw, 1/2" chisel, etc. I like working with wood. But I'm still a hack!! lol. Compared to the projects I'm reading about here, I don't consider myself any good at all. Not yet. Case in point is my last woodworking project, a 2x12 speaker cabinet...

Looking back with what I know today, I guess I could've made better edges, fillers, and finish basically. I think there's a lot to be improved on, and when I think how this was once part of an old family table, I understand my mom's disappointment when she saw it hacked up to pieces. :stone:

Ahh, but I like it enough. This time, though, I bought my own lumber. Hopefully, I could post a build thread on the new speaker cabinet I'm building, but a lot of it depends on whether it turns out ok or not. :p

A lengthy initial post I know, but lately I've been reading/lurking so much around here, so I best make good on the first post!!

PS: Finally located and got to Panda, where everyone seems to be getting good stuff. Nice meeting Sir Edward! I got my first jack plane!! Now to figure out how to work it...
