Good day PHM!

Pat here, a SMAW trainee at JS Intramuros. I started 2 days ago and I'm still having trouble getting good weld beads/stringers. Hopefully, by the end of the 34 days training I could make decent enough welds on all the welding positions (cross fingers). The reason I chose to learn this craft is to, primarily, go abroad and to serve as a "stepping stone" to metal fabrication.

My interest started more than 10 years ago when I saw pictures of choppers in motorcycle mags and by watching American Chopper and Biker Buildoffs. I hope to build my very own bobber/chopper someday. But, like I said, my priority is to learn how to weld properly and gain some experience so I can go overseas.

Hope to learn from the welding masters here and will contribute to this site as I gain knowledge. Thanks!

P.S.
I'll try to post pictures of the welds I make so you could critique my work.

Re: Just getting started

Hi there patrolmo111,

That is good and great, you are taking formal lessons on welding. If the first 34 days of SMAW training covers only NC-1 Certification, then may I suggest you take another round of training for an NC-2 Certification but then if the 34 days of training covers both NC-1 and NC-2, well in good, you are on the right track.

By the way, WELCOME :welcome1: to the PHM community, nice to have you on board :shake: and hopefully we get to see some of your metal fab projects in the future. Oh this is a very friendly forum so don't worry about showing good or bad welds or projects, most of us started that way and as time goes on, na hahasa at bumubuti na rin. So enjoy your stay, enjoy the forum and wish you the best of luck for your dreams here and abroad.

Re: Just getting started

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! :thanks:

Finished with my 3rd day, only 31 days left. My welds ain't looking good yet. Can't seem to get straight stringer beads. I hope before I reach the 5th day I could make decent stringers.:sigh:

I'll have to "budget" the remaining 29 days for the welding positions. I haven't even started with flat yet. Argh!

BTW, I forgot to take pictures of the welds. I'll make sure on Monday that I do take them and post it here, or in another thread, so that you can give feedback.

Thanks again guys!
