Hi to all PHM,

I've been a member here for few months already but didn't give much attention to some rules. At first, i registered an account here just to ask some advice on using palochina as an alternative wood plank flooring.

Our family engage in dried seafood (for export and local distribution) and commercial fishing. Commercial fishing boat/ship were being built in my grandfather's small shipbuilding yard. I can hear noise and see those non-stop welding sparks. they have almost every tools and machineries there. I was always curious with those tools but i was not given a chance to learn welding. They will always tell me that my eyes will get hurt by the the smoke and fumes even you wear welding mask. Welding curiousity stop there. Instead of welding, i learned basic carpentry and together with my friends, we built a tree house (strong enough but not quite good looking in the outside). We used hammer, handsaw, brace & bit for larger holes and eggbeater drill for smaller ones. Funny thing was i don't know what wood was used there since im not into woodworking and we just pick any scrap wood available and maybe we did used coco lumber also.

My interest doesn't stop on one craft. I learned photography, painting (but failed), calligraphy. I like doing things in trial and error system. I like to learn more on soldering, woodworking, carving.

And here's my sample works:

This was my first exhibit using my welding skills. It was featured in Homestyle Magazine: Going Green issue and was bought by a foreigner friend of Carlos Celdran who based in Camiguin.

I also worked for a plastic manufacturing plant in Valenzuela before. Now, i am a SAHF and now ready to learn more woodworking skills.

That's all for now. And forgive me for not introducing myself before.

- Paolo

Re: Late Introduction

hi paolo,

although late, yours was still a nice introduction and much like a narration. it caught me because i also failed in painting being a red green colorblind so most my works ended only in monochromes i.e. black and white. I also learned photography the hard way and the expensive way because what i had in the 1990's is an old super manual german made camera with a non functioning light meter when it was handed down...i would take maybe a roll of film for a single subject composed (bracketed of course). i was given a calligraphy set in grade school and long before i know it i was making all sorts of greeting cards...and learned all sorts of paper media. dipa uso computer and printer nung 1981! i also learned silk screen printing in my college days and again long before i know it my designs were a hit for the medical students not only in my contemporaries but spanned across the four year levels. Earning money while studying is fun! I would make my shirts on a Sunday while all of my classmates should be studying or taking leisure elswhere.

anyhow i still need to learn many things...the craft things..though i super love woodworking, i am equally interested with welding since work is quick and metals could be combined with wood. buti na lang me mga master welders tayo dito eager to share their skills and time like brader Rosy and JayL. Soon when i have time i will learn spray painting. I am sure i will never learn this stuff the hardway anymore since i am in the right place i,e, PHM! There is another great site and that is cab1net.com.

i hope to see you in future ebs!

goodluck!
