Hi, I'm American, 66, retired in Davao for more than 10 years now and have built several boats and have another waiting assembly in the shop. I am also building a medicine cabinet for the bathroom. I am slowly rebuilding my shop from what I had in the US.

I built the New-Fangled workbench from Fine Woodworking and have found it to be a very valuable tool in my shop. You can purchase the digital plans from Fine Woodworking for less than P600. I have the original article in PDF form but I see no way to post PDF files here on PinoyHandyMan. A video about the bench is on the Fine Woodworking site

You can see some of my boats on pinoyboats.org, just do a search on davaodan. I built a PDR sailboat, a 12 foot rowboat and an 18 foot dinghy.

It is good to find this forum for woodworkers. Let the sawdust fly!

Dan

Hi Dan,

Welcome to PHM.

We're happy to have you with us and hopefully we all can share ideas and project builds with you.

I myself have not built my woodworking workbench yet but I will surely check out the plan you recommended above when I am ready for one.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I expect to learn a lot here, especially material sourcing and how to use the locally available materials.

Re: New member intro

Hi Timber,

I am transporting the bench to Samal this morning so it is in pieces right now but anyone can see and get the entire plan free right here: //content.jettools.com/content/jet50/wood/freebies/jet50_workbenchplan.pdf The whole article is there. To see more pictures just type in new-fangled workbench in a search engine. You'll get more information and others adaptations to the bench.
Apparently I cannot (yet) load images here as I get the message "the upload failed". Even though the image is 15kb. But as I say, the whole article is free at the above net address. Nor can I yet post the net address above. Just add http: to the beginning.

Later,

Dan in Davao

Re: New member intro

Nice to see you're in this forum, too, Davao Dan!

My inlaws are from that city, too, so I occasionally fly there. Maybe we can EB sometime.

Never built a workbench yet. Been making do with my 20-year old Black and Decker Workmate and it'll probably die anyday now. But Newfangled WB is a bit too newfangled for me. Looking more closely at Tom's Torsion Box WB for now as I foresee I'll be doing a lot of pounding and heavy loading on my WB, newfangled's movable bench top parts may be a bit too movable for me. The pipe clamps in lieu of a real vise is interesting, though.

Looking forward to a lot of learning from you!
