Well my plan really is to just simply bring it to the machine shop and let them do the boring of holes on the metal since I don't have yet a drill press, he he he he sorry to disappoint you on this matter bro.

Yes bro, part ito ng mga leaf suspension ng isang passenger jeep na naka tambak sa isang junk shop, and I was really hunting for this kind of metal for the metal bender project. After this I'll make another one puro stainless steel naman to see kung sino mas matibay sa dalawa, plus this stainless steel bender will not rust too for sure.

noon bago ako gumawa ng bender, madami akong nakitang molye na tulad nya sir Rosy, pero baka mapaiyak ako sa tigas ng bakal na yan pag yun ang ginamit ko hehehe hanep sa tibay nyan...

pakidala mo camera mo tapos pakikuhanan ng pic habang binubutasan yung molye hehehe

Well BRO ossie, nothing ventured, nothing gained, if I will not use this metal and try it then how will I know kung pupwede syang gamitin pang metal bender kasi I've been going to hardware stores searching for flat bars thicker than 1/4" and they would always say its the only thickness that they have, even 3/8" sana puwede na, e talagang wala pa in so I decided to use the scrap leaf spring.

Ok bro, pag pina butasan ko na yan sa machine shop, dalhin ko camera and will do take some pics.

Bro ossie, ask ko lang, how long do you heat your metal, does it have to turn into an orangie look ( yun bang talagang nag babaga na ) or just heating it up only ?

heat the metal and test if the oil bubbles a little when you put the oil on the metal, ...ma absorb lang ng metal yung oil, ok na yun 🙂

ang ginawa ko dati sa bender ko, grind ko ulit yung welded part para mag flat, then full welding ulit lahat para uminit, then put oil, ala akong oxy ace e hehehe

hehehe, Sorry po sir ossie, nasasapawan kasi ng ibang mga immediate and urgent metal projects eh.

But its always in my mind to work on it as soon as I have completed the right tools and gadgets specially sa pag bubutas. Lots of metal projects in mind but can't proceed coz the bender is not done yet but hoping really to start working on it very soon. :kill:

Hey brad onie13,

If you will be making one using scrap leaf springs, you will have to choose or select those that are straight as possible and probably same thickness for the main body.

Try to make a prototype muna with maybe 2" or 3" flat bars with 1/4" thick before you proceed with the use of the leaf spring (muwelye) para ma plano mo muna ang constructions. You can pattern your design similar to the previous members who have made them before in this thread. 😉

As for my bender, though I have cut already the leaf springs in the middle and have purchased stainless steel rods for my pins, I have not welded them yet. Still thinking of adding other features for my design and the stand I will be using. I'll post wips and its development soon as I have completed the accessories which I will include in the bender. HEHEHE, source of other materials ? our neighborhood junk shop !! 😀

For the rods go with scrap automotive suspension rack ends. These are fully heat treated and hardened metals. Trust me even stainless or tool steel will take a beating once you start bending 1/4" flat bars on the bender.
