I have a gate/grills project for our "dirty kitchen" and I'm looking at using 1x1.5 or 1x2 tubular steel for framing and 20mm solid square bars.

Is 20mm enough to prevent entry with bolt cutter? I wouldn't want too thick square bars as they will not look good. I was actually just thinking of 15mm but I think that's "cuttable" by bolt cutters.

Re: bolt cutter vs grills/gate project

Hmmm our windows have 10mm square bar grills ... they will need something like this to cut through.

For 20mm ... this maybe or longer

So you got a high tensile 10mm square bar? Where'd you get a high tensile one? The metal shops around my area only sell mild steels.

No I used regular 10mm mild steel only ... and 15 mm for the higher risk areas of the building.

Bro, I don't see any problem in using a 20mm square bars as your grill, it will even discourage illegal entrants from cutting them but if your concern is more of the aesthetic appearance then use the 15 mm or 12 mm standard square bars, I think this size will suffice for your intended grill.

OR, you can also use the same size and materials like the 1 X 2 tubulars to have a very uniform look on the grill gate, gates' weight will be less compared to using the solid steel bars.

What do you think and which is more practical for you ?????
