A Welding Table ( 28" x 48" ) alone does not cut it out for me ............................... the chop saws mess things up.

A Chop Saw stand build will make fabricating metal stuff more efficiently. I need to build one.

Looking for ideas on a good design. As usual your inputs and suggestions will be very well appreciated.

For starters here are some build design requirements

1. Mobile so it will have casters.
2. Iit's got to have a small footprint with folding wings.
3. Should be able to store 2 chop saws and all accessories needed.
4.Will have a power distribution center
5.
6.
7.

Thanks

Re: Chop Saw Stand

Need to make one too. Does it have to be metal, or can it be all or mostly wood with say fireproof paint (like Campbridge Fireshield A).

Other than material, any difference in design considerations compared to miter saw stands?

Re: Chop Saw Stand

@Guad I'm also thinking if a commercial miter saw stand might be a better idea. I have not seen one in person so I don't know if these stands will work for metal chop saws.I believe Bosch and Dewalt makes one . I don't know if Makita has this too.

None the less if I build one I would prefer it to be metal.

Re: Chop Saw Stand

not much difference from a mitersaw stand, be aware that it does consume an amount of footprint on your shop.... something you might be getting low on....

You're right .... fold-able one would be a good option.

Timb you had a Bosch Miter Saw stand IIRC. Is this still in your shop?

nope, back with bosch, they use it for demo kasi... ain't cheap. I find a dedicated ms station is best, I don't like folding my stuff and opening them when I need them... I end not using the tool.

Re: Chop Saw Stand

might be a bit too tall, all the dust n chips would fly all over the place, my chop saw table is around 16'' to 18'' only, that way i don't have to lean down when cutting, but for long pieces you'll need a stand to support the other end of the tube/bars and has to be height adjustable too to compensate for the sag...hth

Re: Chop Saw Stand

I'm sick and tired cutting metal on the floor that I decided to build a chop saw stand now.

Inspecting the metal inventory .... looks like I will have enough except for the plates

95% of the time my metal wips are always started by the Bosch Abrasive Cop Saw making the very first cut ...

Floor space is a premium for me but the chop saws deserve their share ... as is these saws make cutting very tedious because the setup is not proper.

Here are the models I found courtesy of http://www.weldingweb.com . I will build and modify the concept according to my needs and available resources.

as usual your inputs will be highly appreciated.

@ Butch ... yes I am with you that these stands are on the high side and I'm just 5'7{" tall.

Re: Chop Saw Stand

The more I look at these models the more I'm convinced that these would work well for straight cuts. What about 45 degree miters which I do most of the time?

Hmmm unless the table top can pivot ..... rotating the saw with it for the desired angle cut. Thus even long stocks would still be supported while cutting and the all important stop blocks still functional.

Unlike Miters Saws the Dry Cut Saws are designed with the blade steady . For miters the fence moves one direction and to the right.

Re: Chop Saw Stand

why not make a lockable turn table where you can mount the cut off saw?

Yes I wil have to make the base plate swivel. I need only max 45 degrees movement. One side only.

For the Bosch Abrasive chop saw on the bottom I don't need a swivel. Usually I use it to rough cut stocks to length so straight cuts would be fine.

For the very long pieces sag issue I think it would better if the chop saw height is in conjunction with my welding table. Probably build some rollers I can mount on the table for support when needed.

Re: Chop Saw Stand

Is there an easy way to calculate the angle of the above legs. Pythagorean Theorem ... man I need something more practical.

I wish I purchased some of these clamps before.
