Re: Chop Saw Stand

The chop saw stand base

My tool of choice for grinding corner welds ... an extended air die grinder

loaded with a Pferd diamond double cut tungsten carbide burr

the carbide burr cuts will be a bit rough so can be trimmed down a using a round bastard file

Re: Chop Saw Stand

I need to settle how to position the Bosch abrasive chop saw for probably an add on sparks arrestor and dust exit

This orientation is ideal ... inline with the dry cut saw

but the angled legs are a nuisance

this one is ok but at times I will need to rotate the base to orient the chop saw one way or another for very long stocks to be chopped

Re: Chop Saw Stand

I will use 1/4" plates for the stand top ... a swivel mechanism is necessary

for the 45 degrees cut

Now I need to do a metals & casters run. I hope 1 1/4" 1.5mm or 2 mm thick squares tubes ( for the extensions ) are available. Will check out pillow blocks at Panda too.

I don't know if receiver square tubes are available but if not I still have to fabricate these.

Re: Chop Saw Stand

Bro JayL,

I have been looking at this pics and set up since the other day pa, are the plywood stand top temporary only ?

If you are going to use metal plates, try getting the 3/8" thickness because what I was thinking for its swiveling mechanism might require that size. Can you make your top plate in a circular shape, cut from a square initially, it will appear as a" lazy susan" on top of the main stand top.

Swiveling options :
1st Option : Find a large bolt and nut (matabang bolt possibly 3/4" or 1" in diameter). Dill a hole sa center ng main top plate, a bit wider than the bolt, then the nut can be welded on the plate to receive the bolt. Now on the circular plate, the bolt can be welded in the center underneath, you can also drill a hole in the center of the circular plate where you can insert the bolt para mas matibay pad na iweld, then you can grind the head flush flat or live the head as is since it will never touch the underside of the chopsaw. Now install the circular plate in the receiver nut until it reaches the main base plate. Now you have an adjustable height lazy susan for your chopsaw. To lock it for your 45 degree cut, yuo can drill two holes on each side where you can insert a locking pin, perhaps 8mm or 10mm round bars.

2nd Option : Find a second hand wheel bearing, big one is better para mas matibay, this wheel bearing can be welded again on the main stand top, of course there will also be a hole in the center as same size of the inner wheel. Then buy a short shafting round rod, weld one end underneath the circular plate then insert the shafting rod sa wheel bearing then spot weld underneath the wheel bearing, now you have a swiveling lazy susan. Locking device could be the same as the above or you may have other ideas in mind. 🙂

These are just suggestions, it might give you other ideas that will be more easier for you.

Hope this helps bro !!!;)

----------------------------------------------------------

Bro purpose of the circular plate is so that there will be no sharp corners or edges that can possible get caught or hurt any body parts.

Re: Chop Saw Stand

Bro

Thanks for your insights. The Chop saw stand will be all metal.

I will see what plates are available when I go for a metal run. If the 1/4" is undersized then I would move 3/8" thick.

Regarding the base I probably can't use circle shape since it is rectangular in design. I would look at the bearing and bushing types idea for the swivel mechanism when I have the plates on hand.

Re: Chop Saw Stand

Since the bottom layer will hold an abrasive chop saw then I prefer grilled type flooring. There will be lots of sparks and dust so better to put something easy to maintain. Maybe a dust pan in the bottom later.

Re: Chop Saw Stand

Yes bro ... I saw it once in you tube and I knew it could make my layouts easier. Weld spacing is also quicker now and less tedious.

Bro, I thought your stand will be the same height as your welding table so to maximize also leveled support for the length of your square tubings or angle bars ??? :p
