Since I will be needing another set of receiver tubes for the optional catch basin I decided to fab a new set of receiver tubes for the extension mounts. This time I gave it more up and down play so I can compensate sag adjustments using the locking bolts.

I'm also planning to build 2 extensions. A medium length and a long length. The medium length which I recon would be used more in my type of wips will be fully adjustable.

One of the perks of having a table saw. I can cut precise wood spacers.

Happy with the new set of receiver tubes I proceeded to weld .. just enough based on the estimated loading requirements

Some of the more useful tools during metal fabrication .... a Swanson 7" square , a Products Engineering 6" combination square and a carbide tipped marking tool.

I seldom use chop saw markers ... I set fence angles manually ... in fairness to Makita the tool markers are dead spot on if viewed correctly.

I'll never go back to cutting on the floor or even above the table ... having a stand is so much convenient even at this stage of it's build.

I'm thinking to modify the original plan a bit ... the Dry Cut Saw cannot handle very thick metals ... say 1/2" flat bars. For those times when a WIP will mostly be using thicker metals then the Abrasive Chop Saw will be the main cutting tool. I will probably fab it's own swivel base plate .. that way it can be swapped easily on the top position. Since the two saws don't have the same table top height then this saw swapping scenario will require a fully height adjustable extension.

If I choose to build only one set of extensions and make it short then it will have to be telescoping so as to handle longer stocks ....

I woke up late today and started 5:30 PM already. None the less I managed to fab the extension end support equipped with a sag compensator.

no knob yet ... this setup will allow me to replace it easily when I find rollers ....

If the support is raised high enough then it will act as the rear stop block. Unlike the front end stop block this does not need a spacer since the stock is clamped to the saw fence.

Good Afternoon PHM.

I have given the extension length a more closer look in line with the type of cutting I am mostly going to do. Timber is right. The benefits of a shorter extension outweighs those of a longer one. First and foremost is that most of my metal cutting will be in the 3 to 4 feet lengths. This move will also make it easier to maneuver the chop saw stand plus it takes up less floor space when fully mounted.

That said I chopped shortened the extensions from the original length of 6.5' to 5'.

I improved the receiver tubes fab ... using four spacers now instead of two ... in out action is even more smoother now.

I plan to use these receivers for the front movable supports and stop blocks fabrication

Half way into te WIP the dry cut saw's efficiency had improved a lot ... or was it was me not having to bend down anymore LOL
