Your jig is surely more sturdier than the commercially available ones. 🙂

Re: DIY Hand Drill Guide

@ossie,

you have a very fertile mind to begin with especially with metals.yes the joinery is quick, almost permanent without having to make a tedious mortise and tenon or a dovetail joinery...

but i learned in the last eb that drilling on metal will need a lesser rpm than on wood.

you probably wished your blue drill has a variable speed.

baka next time..aircraft aluminum na wineweld mo bro!

btw..how did the rod manufacturers come up with such a numbering system?

Re: DIY Hand Drill Guide

@elcheapo, jay,
thanks hehe

@doc,
im building project as per needed and im not buying because i have no budget for it hahaha
yes, drilling metal needs lower RPM. the drill im using has also variable speed setting (by pulse, tama po ba? hehe) so i need to control it every metal drilling, high rpm speed will make the drill bit dull.

about the rod numbering system for example, 6013, 7018, 7024 etc. they are numbered according to its usage, for different metals, positions (bahala ka na mag isip hehe), current types (AC or DC), and for penetration pusposes, its tensile strenght, etc etc.

you can try googling it over re: welding rod numbering system.

tambay minsan tayo sa shop ni Jay lalo na pag dating nung power of blue machine nya, papakilala ka namin kay Bigote - yung welding expert na friend namin 😀

Re: DIY Hand Drill Guide

@ossie: does the drill guide swing from left to right.. I mean is it stable in only one position.. By looking closely in the picture, I think 2 "canyons" would keep it steady..

Anyway, thanks for posting... I'm also thinking of building one myself..

Re: DIY Hand Drill Guide

@clay,
you got it right, 2 canyons will definitely keep it steady, i only used available metals that time.
perhaps a 13mm round bar will do as another guide 😀

my original plan was something similar to this:

I'm also thinking of building one.. I once saw a model that has an adjustable angled design.

Re: DIY Hand Drill Guide

Brossie, I know that it's Zinc Chromate but what I would like to ask is why there's two version - a green and yellow one?
