Look at these combo machines .... mini lathe, mill and drill press in one.

http://www.smithy.com/midas/pricing/ltd

It's a mini so will not be as big as it seems to look in the picture.

Re: DIY Home Machine Shop

I was wondering why you were so interested in arbored chucks before. I thought that maybe you might plunge into some machining capability if a suitable machine crops up. Common naman MT2 taper sa small to medium lathes.

When i'm having merienda or lunch i sometimes watch Mr. Tubalcain's (a retired HS shop teacher) channel and be educated a bit in the machinist world which is alien to me. http://www.youtube.com/user/mrpete222

Re: DIY Home Machine Shop

Site Bookmarked.

Thanks Owyn. Seems like there is too much stuff to digest if one wants to plunge in this kind of tooling. It will take time to educate oneself.

The Old Jacobs chuck are not available anymore. Only the new Chinese made ones are. If I find New Old Stock 14N and 11N then I most probably will buy while these still go cheap in Ebay. Stocks are drying up and soon the prices for these will start shooting up.

Re: DIY Home Machine Shop

Hi Jay, i've been thinking about getting a 3 in 1 machine myself, how do you think we can ship one from the states and how much do you think it would cost to ship...

either that or used equipments locally which is why i plan to make a rpc (rotary phase converter) since most surplus equipment here runs on 3 phase.....

Re: DIY Home Machine Shop

If you guys have enough units, a 20 ft container might be cheaper.

Around USD2,000 for the container.
Maybe less than Php200,000 for taxes with the right broker.

Dumb mistakes will always be dumb mistakes, unless . . . . you learn from it, and then it will be learning experience.

Re: DIY Home Machine Shop

I was thinking in the same line as Bigfoot. Probably a container might be a cheaper route. Last time I wanted to buy a Quincy compressor in the US the shipping charges killed the deal.

For now I'm just making some reading gathering info on these type of tooling. I haven't have any experience or a really particular use in mind that I have for it yet. These mini combo looks to be geared for DIY type fabricators although good enough for business use within it's design capacity.

That said and if ever I buy it will have to be from a reputable company with spare parts available and good Customer Support.

Just my 0.02 cents thoughts.

Please post your info , links and opinions on this matter so that we can all learn more.

Hi JayL,

Maybe you should check the reviews on 3-in-1's. Here are a few..... http://www.atm-workshop.com/smithy1220xl.html

At todays prices of singles you might be better off w/ individual units.
