Lets show our support to give us the proper internet. We are paying too much for a very less internet connection from PLDT.

, the internet service here in PH is really deplorable, just to put it in one word :-(. if consumers in metro manila are complaining of slow internet service, what more for consumers like me staying in 2nd class provincial cities (e.g. tampakan, south cotobato) here in mindanao. i would really like to sign this petition, but after reading it, it's not clear to me as to what is the problem and the propose solution of the petition letter. i doubt it if pldt will even bother to read this petition. as for the govt (e.g. NTC, DOTC or whatever agency is responsible for it), i doubt if any action will be taken, simply because it does not even propose a solution. bottomline, the last thing any govt will do is think of a solution that is acceptable to all. what they always want is lots of input (solutions) from all sources (e.g. professionals, non-profit organization) for them to simply choose which one would be 'politically' acceptable to the public ... hindi bobo ang mga taga gobyerno noh, tamad lang silang mag isip ng malalim 🙂 ...

having worked in the private sector throughout most of my career, it's hard for me to blame pldt as it's a business motivated primarily by profit - even if they insist on having social responsibilities. if we don't like their service, we can always go to others. and i don't think that pldt has a monopoly over the installation of international links to PH. it's just that, no local company (or group of companies) on it's own, has the resources to setup a new link. from my experience, the only way to improve internet service is to foster competition and provide objective monitoring of standards that is open to the consumers so that they can decide on their own which ISP to choose - if sales goes down and revenue is affected, any company will be force to shape up and provide better service. this is where the govt can do something like giving incentives (e.g. tax breaks) to companies that will setup the new link, or through PPP, govt can be part owner of the new link infrastructure, etc. ...

how i wish a new telecom company will simply look at a map and see how near mindanao is from SG which has become a regional hub in the information network - it's so simple to setup an undersea cable (puede rin satellite link) from SG to mindanao and then simply connect all the visayan islands to its network to create a new market 🙂 ... cheers

Boo!
