thanks @paul_s... I agree pillow block is great and best of all its maintenance free. A contractor who built our house gate used pillow block, and now after 10 years, the gate still swings great! I have never put a drop of oil into it.

How about rust? Tumatagal ba ang tubular steel against sa kalawangan (rust)? compared to traditional gate na galvanized pipe + sheet.

Yes tatagal naman basta alaga Lang sa pintura. Btw, this is a galvanized 2x4 tubular... The price is just 10 peso more than the steel 2x4 tubular

Ah ok! It is galvanized. What I saw on some gate/fence fabricator, gamit lang nila ay black iron kaya ang comment ko sa kanila ay hindi tatagal dahil loob nagkakaroon ng rust formation. Can you give us the price update ng mga metal?

I never thought there were such thing as galvanized tubulars, all I know, they're only for pipes. Anyway if so, can they be purchased at ordinary hardware stores selling steel or they have to be specially ordered.
Hmmm I guess I'll have to check my steel supplier for this galvanized tubulars. :whistle:

here at my suki hardware store in bulacan, the galvanized tubular is in their stock so no need to preorder it.

the price of 2x4 galvanized tubular is 685, 2x3 if I remember exactly is 550, 2x2 is 450.
If you take a look at "My welding table" thread I created, the 2x4 welding table top looked like stainless steel... but its actually galvanized tubular. 🙂

This is probably not a "new" precaution to most welders...but, if it will help just one person....that's good!!

A simple precaution about welding galvanized metal......please make sure there is plenty of ventilation (fan, exhaust, etc.).
It's not good to breathe any welding fumes....but galvanized can make a person sick fairly quickly.
I know...it's happened to me!

On Google.....please check "welding galvanized hazards", or "welding fume fever".

A copy/paste from google:
"Typical “metal fume fever” begins about 4 hours after exposure, and full recovery occurs within 48 hours.
The symptoms include fever, chills, thirst, headache and nausea.
All of these symptoms, pain and suffering, as well as lost work (and play) time, can be avoided entirely by simply not inhaling the zinc oxide fumes."

Will I weld galvanized now? Yes...I just make sure I follow the "procedure"..and then no problems!!

Please be careful and be sure there is plenty of fresh air moving the fumes/smoke away!

This is a good reminder and precaution for the new hobby welders and pros alike not knowing the hazards of welding
galvanized steel or pipes. I learned about this when I started joining other welding forums in the US a couple of years
back and since then have been very careful welding galvanized pipes. Always have an electric fan in front to keep air
fresh and moving, to ward away deadly welding fumes plus would always wear a 3M mask under my welding helmet.

I just hope members who are into welding / metalworking can give this reminder some serious thoughts and concern.

For me that's the very reason I placed my welding area near the balcony because of the open space... and I always make sure that the ventilator is always near where I'm welding so that it can just suck and throw the smoke outside... the only problem is sometimes (or many times 🙂 ) I get lazy turning it on!
