question, when cutting angle bars with an angle grinder, what is the correct direction of cut, towards you or moving away from you?
Re: metal cutting with a grinder
im a right handed person, i experienced safe cutting metals direction is toward you. always wear a safety protection and use the handle provided.
better to invest for a cut off saw or dry cut saw especially designed for cutting metal if you are going cut metal palagi - for some safety reason and ease of cutting metal.

Thanks ossie, that's what the store clerk actually told me to do, I'm just double checking.
I'll just be doing cutting for now for a store shelf project, so purchase of a metal cut off will be for the future. Need some store shelf and decided to just make them myself than purchasing. The metal shelves that I canvassed go for a low of 6k, which are very expensive for me

Re: metal cutting with a grinder
What not use a good hack saw ( wherein blade can be tensioned correctly ) then load it with a new bi-metal blade like Morse or Lenox?
Just wondering but maybe your angle bars are thick so you prefer the angle grinder.

@rolly, if its not that thick, just use hacksaw - much safer than using angle grinder as also advised by Jay.
ako kasi sanay na sanay na sa angle grinder kasi pinangpuputol ko pa ng concrete mouldings yan e hehe

Re: metal cutting with a grinder
HI sir rolly, maybe my two cents worth of advice would be too late
already and probably your done with your shelving project, well what I
say about cutting angle bars with a grinder or any like T-bars or Z-bars
for thinner sizes of these bars its fine to use a grinder with thin cutting discs but for thicker sizes and wider dimensions may i suggest using
a cut off saw if you have one specially if you are cutting several pieces
of the same length, it is much easier and faster.
Using a cut off saw is also great for cutting angles para skualado pag inassemble na mga angle bars.
For small sizes and thin angle bars fine using a hacksaw or an
angle grinder but for thicker size metal using a hacksaw, ha

Re: metal cutting with a grinder
question, when cutting angle bars with an angle grinder, what is the correct direction of cut, towards you or moving away from you?
I only use the angle grinder's cutting disk for thin metals, I use hack saw for thick metals..
For long thin metals I use the reciprocating saw.
Anyway, is you would use a grinder make sure you use the safety handle for better grip.. Clamping the metal would also help in stability and straight cuts..
I cut the metal, with splinters toward the floor, sometimes left handed. .
as long as the guard is adjusted to use.
