Re: My 1st project

@ spykersetter,

Is the gate already done ? Will this gate be your main gate which is or will be exposed to the sun/elements ? If so yes, sayang naman ang trabaho mo, I guess you will have to drench your palochina with wood preservatives and use a lot of water proofing chemicals or whatever maybe before giving it some final varnish. Hopefully the palochina won't warp or shrink anymore.

Anyway your first project looks great, sana show us more pics of it and also your future pics, we are hungry for pics here bro.

OK, good luck on your projects in the future and CHEERS.

it's not done yet master rosy, it will be installed in our vacant lot, yun n nga ang hinahanapan ko ng magandang sulosyon master rosy, kung paano sya magiging durable in the outside world hehehehe, already treated it with clear solignum for termite> WHat im wondering about is what added protection should i do to para mapatagal ko man lang ang life ng varnish nya.

Re: My 1st project

its is good if you have protected it from woodboring insects.

like what Timber said, use a Spar varnish since its going to be exposed to the environment.

if you want added protection then 10 coats will be ok sanding in between.

its not an overkill to have ten coats btw.

after 3-5 years, you may have to renew again.

take note that there will be yellowing in time.

1 quart of Ace spar varnish is around 400pesos.

if you think its expensive then i cannot recommend anything less.

before anything else, start coating your pine with sanding sealer..then the urethanes follow.

goodluck!

Re: My 1st project

HEY bro spyksetter,

I like your 1st project, maganda at matibay, I hope !!!!!

Bro, the problem with prolonging the life span of your gate is not only on the palo-china, its also the main frame, the metal frame, maybe sana before you permanently screwed or bolted your palo-china, e well and properly coated na and metal with metal epoxy, maybe using several coats will do then finish if also with several coats of your desired color finish. I may be wrong here kasi baka nag da dry fit ka pa lamang and its not yet final.

Now with regards to thr preservation of the palo-china, I totally agree with sir timber and violaine's suggestions, in doing so on the metal and wood I think your gate can and will now be ready to face the harsh elements outside. Good luck again on your 1st project.

By the way bro, are you into metal working too ? are you the one who assembled your metal frame with all the added square bars ? Paano mo ikinakabit ang mga wood sa metal frames, I hope sana you can post detailed pics of how you where able to screw or bolted them palo-china's on the frame.
I hope you don't mind me asking.

THANKS, :thanks:

THANKS, :thanks:

dry fit pa lang yan sir , i didnt use square tube on the frame 1 use angle bar for the frame pinagkapit ko lang para mukhang sq. tube , medyo mahirap maghanap ng makapal na sq. tube , saka inoorder pa ata sa pabrika about sa palo china naka screw muna sya sa metal frame , and yes sir Rosy ako lang ang gumawa nyan , luckily for me meron din akong mga kapitbahay, kumpare mapapagtanungan para sa project ko na yan,

i cant say na im into woodworking or in metal works mahilig lang akong magbutingting saka may mga tools din ako , kaya i can do whatever new idea na maisip kong gawin.

re: detailed pics
na umpisahan ko kasi yan nung hindi pa ko nag memember d2 sa PHM. kaya wala akong detailed pics pero ihahabol ko ppag naasikaso ko uli sya
