pavilion/carport

mga sir im planning to do a pavilion / carport project. through the net i came across this design by april wilkerson on youtube..my question is will this be possible if i use 2x4 tubular with 1.5 mm thickness..sa mga experts po trying to find out if it can handle the load with a 6m span from post to post

And to answer your question,

For your posts, I'd rather have a 4 X 4 or 5 X 5 square tubing with surface thickness of 1/8"(4.0mm). The 1.5 mm is too thin and is not structurally sound to carry the load you will install above, the girder, trusses purlings and the galvanized corrugated roofing. An alternative if you cannot find the tubing I have suggested, you can also use 5 X 5 galvanized pipes as your posts,just get the thickest gauge you can find. This does not rust easily compared to the tubings mentioned. Always remember to make your base and girder sound and sturdy for they will be the one to carry the heavy load of the roof, do not gamble your safety and your vehicle with a non sound and sturdy carport/pavilon.

Hope this helps and give you something to think about the soundness of the structure you are planning to build.

mga sir this was a suggestion by a local welder here that i consulted for the trusses...2 x 4 tubular 1.5 mm thick for top and bottom chord and 2 x 2 tubular 1.5 mm for the webs that would span 20 ft..would you recommend this? just want to be sure..salamat po

May I know the dimension of your planned car port, is it for a single car or for a two vehicle car port.

Anyway I'd rather use for my bottom cord a 2 X 4 or 2 X 6 C channel instead of the 1.5 mm thick 2 X 4
tubular. like I said before, masyadong manipis ang 1.5mm. For the trusses and for the webs, ok lang yung
2 x 4s and the 2 x 2s na tubular.

I'm am not an engineer but tubulars for trusses seem an overkill especially for the size of your project. I've seen bigger area with trusses made of angle bars instead of tubulars. Why not use angle bars with the right thickness?

mga sir there have been change of plans instead of a pavilion were doing 2 storey deck..same dimensions..im doing six concrete post 10' span..i just wanna ask you good sirs for suggestions on my girder ayoko po sana ng concrete beam..what would be a good alternative?

I Beams (H Beams) would be another alternative. They can easily be welded on top of the posts rebars
with metal plates provision.

A 5" X 8" or 10" with 1/4" thick metal surface. May I suggest you consult a structural engineer so that you will get
the proper advice and/or suggestions.

I agree with rosy. When I read "2 storey", getting the help of a certified structural engineer immediately came into my mind.

pede po pahelp, paki correct nlang po kung nasa tamang section po ako.
Meron po ako tinatapos na bahay ko, un estimate na roofing ko is 84 sq. meter, single agua lang po, parang isang diretso lang po..tapus un trusses mga apat un section, cgru mga 9 feet un haba ng each trusses. Pede po ba pahelp po ng estimate ng price un prefabric na at saka un price kung gagawin na lang onsite. Pacencya na po hindi po ako engineer. Hingi lang po ng advice for estimation lang po para may ideya po ako.
