Re: Rosy's Heavy Duty Welding and Cutting Table Build

Now on these sets of pics that I am going to post, you might be asking yourselves why in the world will rosy post these kind of pictures, they are just simply different weld bead applications and maybe not necessary and not worth posting anymore !!!

OK, the reason I keep on posting pics of this kind on this project and on other projects on other thread is because I want to record my so called weld bead application, I want to compare the before applications and the now applications and see how far I have improved plus I want to share this progress too to the community interested in welding. I am not posting this decent weld beads just to boast or look " pa astig ", it is simply sharing what I have achieved these past months of practice welding. Another thing is that in welding, putting metals together is not enough, one has to be able to show also how to apply decent weld beads properly and I think that is one rule in welding and that is what professional welders and instructors look for in weld applications.

OK, SO MUCH FOR THIS TALK and I'LL START POSTING MY RECENT RESULTS :

I have completed and finished welding the main frame receiver of the welding table, the insides and the top side. And here are the results !!!!!

These are the decent weld applications that I made after initially applying first a E6011 welding rod for deep penetration and then capped it with E6013 welding rod. I have included the slags to show the proper amps setting resulting in the correct burn of the weld. These slags would start to dislodge from the welds underneath as the welds cools down.

Re: Rosy's Heavy Duty Welding and Cutting Table Build

AND THESE ARE THE TOP SIDES OF THE ANGLE IRON BAR :

Again these are the results of my weld applications including the slags that dislodged itself as the weld starts to cool down. I will not grind them and just leave them as is but if the time comes that it needs to be grinded because of some reason or another, then I'll grind them down to the bare metal.

The same procedure, i used a E6011 welding rod for deep penetration, then applied a capping of E6013 welding rod.

AND THE CORNERS OF THE WHOLE FRAME :

These corner welds can be grinded down to produce a sharp edge sine it is outside and can be seen or I can leave it as is.

Re: Rosy's Heavy Duty Welding and Cutting Table Build

AND THE OVERALL LOOK OF THE WELDED FRAME :

As the whole frame got welded, it has become difficult for me to lift the welded frame and change its position that is why it took me a lot of movement and setting up before starting to weld the back side and the top side. So the final size or measurements the main frame is 36" X 84" or 3' wide X 7' in length.

SO THAT's IT FOR NOW and THANKS FOR VIEWING ............................

TO BE CONTINUED !!!

@rosy
i'm curious, seeing that you're doing the welding for making art (presumably sculpture), why arc instead of oxy ace?

Re: Rosy's Heavy Duty Welding and Cutting Table Build

Yes bro zepol,

There are metalworks for sculpture that needs the use of ARC and there will be instances that a MIG application will be needed too likewise when it comes to thin sheets like copper, brass, stainless steel or the ordinary galvanized sheets, these materials will need the use of a TIG welder application and an oxy-ace. 😉

What I have now is an ac Yamato welder and a locally assembled 200 or 250 amps welder, when the time comes that I finish this table then I will get me a DC TIG Inverter and a MIG gas and gasless combo machine plus an oxy ace and a plasma cutter which are on my list to purchase. It will just be a matter of time. 🙂 😎

@rosy
wow. i came upon this book which dealt mostly with oxy ace welding - it seems to be versatile and forgiving. kaso lang it's the opposite of portable so i can't use it 🙁

Re: Rosy's Heavy Duty Welding and Cutting Table Build

Looking great bro.

17mm fine thread metric bolts , M12 x 1.25mm tap & a 27/64" drill bit will probably work to fasten those heavy duty casters.

When doing welding table builds ... the casters or wheels is not a place to skimp and try to cut down cost. 🙂 Heavier is better LOL.

Thanks bro JayL for the tip on the bolt size to be used plus sizes of tap and the drill bits , but if I don't find this sizes individually I might just bore holes thru and thru and then fasten the casters with nuts and bolts sizes 1/2" X 1 1/2 ". 😉

The problem now is I don't have yet a TAP and DIE SET, haven't purchased yet the set we saw at Amazon.com , hehehehehe :p:D

Individual Drill Bits and Taps can be purchased from Panda, LYS or Yale Hardware.

However you will need a tap wrench too.

Re: Rosy's Heavy Duty Welding and Cutting Table Build

OK, Here is an up date of what I've been doing for this project.
I've been working slowly but meticulously on the plates for the legs, the plates where the casters will be bolted, cutting, grinding and squaring off each plate, very tedious and two more to go plus the gazettes that I would be attaching too.

Since I'm done with the assemble of the main top frame, then I guess its time to work on the legs and plates so that they will be the next to be assembled.

Nothing much here, just grinding the edges and removing the jugged edges brought about by using an oxy-ace cutter at the scrap yard.

Simply using a flat bar as a guide for cutting metal accurately.

More metal cutting and grinding :

Here I used the thin cutting (slicer) disc JayL gave me for my Makita. Sure cuts fast and clean specially with a guide just moving the grinder back and forth slowly and with light pressure.

Re: Rosy's Heavy Duty Welding and Cutting Table Build

Here's the result of the initial cuts, precise and with very thin kerf cut on the plate.

Bought two pieces of 3/8" thick plates, 5" X 7" in actual size at php 90.00 each so I presume when I cut them to required size, it will end up as php 45.00 each

Re: Rosy's Heavy Duty Welding and Cutting Table Build

HAHAHA, the welding table is not yet done but I'm working on top of it already, here's my set up, cutting, grinding on the table top plates placed on top of the main frame.

Again cutting a portion of the metal gazette or the additional support for the plate and the main I-Beam leg.

Re: Rosy's Heavy Duty Welding and Cutting Table Build

OH well simply just dry fitting the legs, the shoe plate and the metal support and just to see how it will appear, Hmmmmmm, the more pieces of metal I add the more there will be some welding to do, LOL
