Needed some additional tool Hooks and Hangers for my tools so I made some from scrap metals of flat bars and corrugated steel bars. Cut the flat bars sizes 3/16" X 19/16" and 1/4" X 2". Also cut the corrugated steel bars sizes 8.5mm and 10mm.

Cut them in various sizes and lengths, did some metal bending, welded them together to serve as my additional hooks and hangers in the tool room.

Here are my simple WIPS.

This last pic is a closer look at the two metals tacked welded before final full welding.
The metals here are the 8mm corrugated steel bars and the flat bars are the 3/16" X 19/16".

Re: Simple Tool HOOKS & HANGERS

Continuation of my simple WIP,

On these three images I used two 10mm corrugated steel bars cut to 11" each, grinded and filed to remove the slotted parts to somewhat smoothen the bars. Then started bending the metal to form a hanger. :p This is where I used the 1/4" X 2" flat bars as its base.

Re: Simple Tool HOOKS & HANGERS

Another continuation of the simple WIP,

In these set of pics I added two more hooks using the 8mm corrugated steel bar, bended to form and welded to the flat bars.
I used a die grinder to smoothen the welded parts.

Re: Simple Tool HOOKS & HANGERS

Needs only paint now and those hooks will be very very useful. I myself hang a lot of things in order to organize clutter in the shop.

Looks like those will be movable too.

Did you get your Mig welder already bro?

Re: Simple Tool HOOKS & HANGERS

Continuation of my simple Hook & Hanger WIP,

Here are the completed simple tool Hooks & Hangers that I made, I'll just do some more wire brushing before applying metal primer and the final finished paint of Pylox spray paint.

I'll do one more posting of the painted Hooks & Hangers tomorrow, thanks for viewing this simple WIP project. :thanks:

Yes sir JayL, they are movable and can be positioned around the wire matting where it will be hanged to accommodate any size of the tool.

Not yet, my schedule of the MIG purchase is mid or end of July, still working on the welding table so that by the time I get the Mig I have already a sturdy and heavy duty table to work on.

Re: Simple Tool HOOKS & HANGERS

Those will be useful indeed. For your version 1.0, it still doesn't have the finished look, owing to the availability of material (re-bar.) (We got round hot rolled steel in the compound aside from rebar, but that ain't pretty either. I have no idea if cold rolled steel would be affordable.) Or perhaps, had the stem been of consistent diameter, one could have used a die to make a thread on it and tap the flat bar with corresponding thread, then weld on the backside. (But then why not use a bolt? 1/4" or 5/16", -rounder, has a thread already, and one can select the tensile strength rating.)

It won't win a beauty contest, but i know it'll serve it purpose. I bet all of us know each of our workshops could be more organized =).

==========

I used to bike along Los banos's IRRI and i kinda admire the 60's or 70's design. Koi fish pond on the center, the canteen has a painting in one wall and the ceiling has some narra planks. When going down the lrt u.n. station and seeing the WHO headquarters, it's beautiful too- well back when it had open spaces with kalachuchi trees. Turns out it had the same architect.

Re: Simple Tool HOOKS & HANGERS

Busy, busy, busy. A word of caution though Rosy about using your drill to grind down those rebars with a flat file. You are going to wreck your drill eventually if you do that. I did using it as a router. Drills are not really meant to take sideward forces. You'd be better off buying one of those sanding attachments for your drill and then using 40 or 30 grid sanding disks.

Don't you have an angle grinder? Usually welding and angle grinders are found together.

Re: Simple Tool HOOKS & HANGERS

Thanks guys for your thoughts and inputs on this simple project, I hope it did not bore you viewing them pics though its not yet complete but I'll try posting then tonight or tomorrow.

There is such a saying now a days, " USE, REUSE, REDUCE and RECYCLE ".
What I did here was to make use of and recycle these rusting rebars and flat bars lying around my garage to good use since I needed additional hooks/hangers for my tools. My main concern was to recycle what's available material I have around. 🙂

Oh yes I could have made them much better and nice looking with fancy design and maybe instead of using these rusted metals could have opted in buying and using stainless steel or brand new flat bars and corrugated steel bars, or maybe just simply purchased the needed number of hooks from Ace Hardware or Handyman or DIY stores near us which cost to about 55 bucks or so a pair, but then in that case wala na tayong pinag uusapan pa and no more wips to post and learn.

But no, I wanted to do the simple project, as what the topic says, simple tool hooks and hangers with an intro of using scrap flat bars and corrugated steel bars. I posted these wips for the purpose of sharing here what I did and the result of recycling project, but of course when you present a raw and rusted metal it will not be nice to look at but that is the point these are rusted metals being recycled. 🙁

But then in doing so if it does not meet the high standards of other members here then so sorry about that but what the heck and if you don't like its simplicity in design, that's just fine with me. As for me, I did it from the heart and with good intentions and them HOOKS & HANGERS will be very useful for my tools. :p

Again many thanks. :thanks:

Re: Simple Tool HOOKS & HANGERS

Metal projects are most of the time always ugly till after the painting job.

In my case until I can weld with much better weld beads I will use carbide burrs and grinding stones to dress these up for cosmetic purposes. 🙂

Re: Simple Tool HOOKS & HANGERS

take it as a constructive criticism, it wasn't meant to be insulting. You can stick with your standards though if you wish, but I don't find anything wrong with trying to better one's self.

Re: Simple Tool HOOKS & HANGERS

So sorry for the delayed posting of my simple tool hooks & hangers wips. After wainting for the paint to dry and taking pics I was so excited and so engrossed in fixing and organizing some of my metal working tools in the tool room in one corner of my garage. Sorry again for additional delay because I made another set of the tool HOOKS & HANGERS 'coz I needed some more.

Well anyway after the cutting, bending, pounding and welding process now comes the painting of the tool hooks and hangers. Before painting the items, I first carefully wheel wire brushed each hook to remove the whitish turco anti rust residue and exposed the clean and shinny metal surface of the hooks then started applying metal epoxy primer.

Here are my simple WIPs.
