This is a Ladder rack from a PLDT used Anfra steel van. I intend to convert it to a top load tray.. By removing the ladder holders, and making it much wider and stronger..

But I still need to make it light weight as possible so the load would not crush through the ceiling when load is added..

As you can see in the pics below, I already removed the ladder holders..

I already fitted a 3/4 inch pipe at the side to make the tray wider. If you can see the non painted pipes, these are newly welded..

Re: Top load carrier reconstruction

As you can see in the first pic, the carrier has 4 legs, in order to make it more stable to carry heavier loads than just ladders, I am thinking of adding more legs.. I am also thinking of placing a quick access ladder similar to some starex vans...

What do you think I need you inputs..

Just keep the pics coming. I'm sure some of our peers will have inputs along the way.

Re: Top load carrier reconstruction

@clay,
you may put another pipe in the middle and another legs on both side to make it stronger. but, of course, it will add some weight. thanks

But I still need to make it light weight as possible so the load would not crush through the ceiling when load is added..

Re: Top load carrier reconstruction

Nice carrier CF, not sure if adding more braces would be good since all the load is only being carried by the four joints.

Actually, I kinda cheated it in design. I inserted a smaller tube, inside those four legs to make it stiff. I'll be adding more brackets on the side for balance..

Re: Top load carrier reconstruction

@ clayfigur,

Great reconstruction project there bro, just make sure you strengthen the four legs and maybe may I suggest add one more at the end pipe middle portion, that will strengthen the last end pipe specially if you will be using it to carry or haul long bamboo, bro mabigat din ang kawayan lalo na kung puro mahahaba at bagong tabas pa lamang.

Anyway that is just my concern, nice job on your carrier.

I thinking of adding a fixed ladder like those in starex vans.. I hope it would add more strength on the rear. As for the front, I'm thinking of reinforcement brackets..
