Re: Welding Newbie

The casters i bought doesn't have pretty welds as would you see on bike frames. Too much amperage it appears (I'm guessing they're cranking up casters as fast as they can.)

They didn't bother welding the inner side too so i bet the rated 300kg rating's compromised. Biggest gap's .3mm. In contrast the thinnest feeler .04mm wouldn't pass between the outlet and aluminum.

Here's my best effort. (I really should buy a real camera...)

And here's my worst. Started out well but couldn't maintain the mojo.

To think i've practiced again beforehand to remove the jitters. Lesson learned is if you're confident and comfortable, the welds will come out well.

6013 3/32" nihonweld.

Re: Welding Newbie

@Ossie

I'll be making a mobile base soon and I swore to myself that i won't grind out the welds. *Gulp*...

...dreaming about pretty welds but realistically all I'm aiming for now is that it will be structurally sound at the minimum, and my mood won't sour everytime i see my welds heh. I did a few destructive tests and how good the penetration is... it's about 1/16" deep with my current settings.

Puddle sinks into the pipe and falls if too big.

How thoughtful of you to bevel it btw. I'll do that too to make up for the shallow penetration.

yep i am following this thread.lurker mode muna...i am learning a lot here..and yes owyn..borrow your sister's camera phone na lang muna hehe...astig yung weld mo bro...parang TIG weld hah!

anyway, i wont brave myself to do the welding without the auto darkening helmet..to me, its like driving without a license.lol

elektrowerk is selling one for about 3.8k...is the price ok?what they have is the one with a speed of darkening in 1/30,000th of a second.

Re: Welding Newbie

@owyn, no need to buy a *real* camera owyn. You just need to back out a little and wait till the camera focuses on what you intend to shoot 😉

Re: Welding Newbie

Are you building a door Ossie?

I got some brushes from Panda. Prices are good and the quality better than those found in malls or hardware.

Did you buy the square tubes new?

Usually I bevel the tube edges a bit to get better weld penetration and joints.
